Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language, widely spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu cinema is based in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, India. The nickname ''Tollywood'' is a portmanteau of the words Telugu and Hollywood. By 2021, it has emerged as the largest film industry in India in terms of box-office. Since 1909, filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was involved in producing short films and travelling to different regions in Asia to promote film work. In 1921, he produced the silent film, '' Bhishma Pratigna'', generally considered to be the first Telugu feature film, and hence, regarded as the ''Father of Telugu cinema''. Pendyala Nageswara Rao
Pendyala Nageswara Rao (6 March 1917 – 31 August 1984), known mononymously by his surname Pendyala, was an Indian composer, multi-instrumentalist, conductor, music producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema along with Tamil and Kannada films.Nata Ratnalu, Mikkilineni Radhakrishna Murthy, Second edition, 2002; pp:582-4. Sankaramanchi Janaki (born T. Janaki; 12 December 1931), popularly known as Sowcar Janaki (Tamil) or Shavukaru Janaki (Telugu) or Sahukar Janaki (Kannada), is an Indian actress who has appeared in over 300, films, predominantly in Tamil language, Tamil, Telugu language, Telugu, and Kannada languages. Jamuna (born 30 August 1936) is an Indian actress, director and politician who appeared mainly in Telugu films. She made her acting debut at the age of 16 in Dr. Garikapati Rajarao's ''Puttillu'' (1953), and received her breakthrough with L. V. Prasad ''Missamma'' (1955). Her filmography also includes Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. She won a Filmfare Award and an award at Filmfare Awards South. ''Bangaru Papa'' () is a 1955 Indian Telugu-language film produced and directed by B. N. Reddy on Vauhini Productions banner. The film stars S. V. Ranga Rao, Jaggayya, Krishna Kumari, Jamuna. It is based on the 1861 English novel '' Silas Marner'' by George Eliot. ''Bangaru Papa'' won the President's Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 3rd National Film Awards. B. N. Miss Kumari
Miss Kumari (1932–1969) was an Indian actress working in the Malayalam film industry between 1949 and 1969. Antony Mitradas
Antony Mitradas (3 November 1913 – 20 February 2017) was an Indian film director who directed films in three languages: Tamil, Malayalam and Sinhalese. Early life Mitradas was born in Madurai on 3 November 1913. He did his B.A. Statistics at American College, Madurai. His passion for film direction took him to Calcutta, and he enrolled in an institute run by Mr. Balchandani. There the noted director Ellis R. Dungan had come to deliver a guest lecture. Dungan was much impressed by Mitradas and recommended him to T. R. Sundaram of Modern Theatres, Salem. Thus he got the opportunity to direct his first film '' Dayalan'' starring P. U.
