Cinema Of Andhra Pradesh
Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language, widely spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu cinema is based in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, India. The nickname ''Tollywood'' is a portmanteau of the words Telugu and Hollywood. By 2021, it has emerged as the largest film industry in India in terms of box-office. Since 1909, filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was involved in producing short films and travelling to different regions in Asia to promote film work. In 1921, he produced the silent film, '' Bhishma Pratigna'', generally considered to be the first Telugu feature film, and hence, regarded as the ''Father of Telugu cinema''. Chalam (actor)
Chalam (born Simhachalam Korada) (18 May 1929 - 4 May 1989) was an Indian film actor, and producer known for his works primarily in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre. In 1971 he produced and acted in ''Mattilo Manikyam'' which won the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 19th National Film Awards. In a film career spanning 30 years, Chalam was starred in about 150 films in a variety of roles. Personal life Chalam married Ramanakumari, and changed his name to Ramana Chalam. They have 3 children. Ramana Kumari died in 1964 in a fire accident. Chalam later married, to Urvasi Sharada, his co-star in her debut film, ''Tandrulu Kodukulu'' in 1972. They later divorced in 1984. Death Chalam died on 4 May 1989. Due to alcohol addication.in his final days he also suffered from depression. Mynavathi
Mynavathi (26 July 1935 – 10 November 2012) was an Indian actress. She made her first screen appearance as an actor in the 1955 Kannada film ''Santa Sakhu'' and acted in over 100 Kannada films. She was the younger sister of another popular Kannada actress Pandari Bai. She became popular after her role in the 1959 Kannada film ''Abba Aa Hudugi'', which co-starred Rajkumar and her sister Pandari Bai and was directed by H. L. N. Simha. In the film, she played the role of an autocratic girl who hates men. It was based on William Shakespeare's play ''The Taming of the Shrew''. ''Ponvayal'' () is a 1954 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by A. T. Krishnaswamy, and produced by T. R. Ramachandran. It is based on the story ''Poimaan Karadu'' by Kalki Krishnamurthy that was serialised in the weekly magazine '' Kalki''. The film stars T. R. Ramachandran and Anjali Devi. It was released on 12 February 1954 and failed commercially. The film is lost. Plot Sengodan owns 10 acres of land, known as "Ponvayal" (Golden Farm). It is rumoured that fortune in gold is buried in Ponvayal. Sengodan loves his cousin Semba. Esraj, a counterfeiter, plans to obtain at the fortune. He seeks the help of a graduate Bangaru and his lover. Unknown to Esraj, a policeman and an actress work against him and the crafty couple succeed in foiling the plans of Esraj. Pendyala Nageswara Rao (6 March 1917 – 31 August 1984), known mononymously by his surname Pendyala, was an Indian composer, multi-instrumentalist, conductor, music producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema along with Tamil and Kannada films.Nata Ratnalu, Mikkilineni Radhakrishna Murthy, Second edition, 2002; pp:582-4. Suryakantham (actress)
Suryakantham (28 October 1924 – 18 December 1994) was an Indian actress in Tollywood. She was popular for playing the role of a cruel mother-in-law in most of her movies. Early life Suryakantham was born and brought up in a Telugu Brahmin family residing at Venkata Krishnaraya Puram near Kakinada of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. She was the 14th child to her parents, ten of whose children had died. She learnt dance and singing at the age of six. She married Peddibhotla Chalapati Rao, a High Court Judge, in 1950. Jamuna (born 30 August 1936) is an Indian actress, director and politician who appeared mainly in Telugu films. She made her acting debut at the age of 16 in Dr. Garikapati Rajarao's ''Puttillu'' (1953), and received her breakthrough with L. V. Prasad ''Missamma'' (1955). Her filmography also includes Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. She won a Filmfare Award and an award at Filmfare Awards South. Sri Sarathi Studios is a film studio facility located in Hyderabad, India. It was established in 1956 and was the first film studio facility built in Hyderabad. It was built by the Raja of Challapalli, Yarlagadda Sivarama Prasad. The first film shot in the studio was '' Maa Inti Mahalakshmi'' (1959).
