Thomas Wu (; born 11 April 1950) is a Taiwanese business executive. Personal life and education Thomas Wu is the fourth of six children born to entrepreneur and his wife Wu Kuei-lan. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Fu Jen Catholic University in 1972, and completed a master's in business administration from the Anderson School of Management at University of California, Los Angeles in 1975. In 1990, Wu was kidnapped by Hu Gwan-bao. Wu was freed on 18 December 1990 upon payment of a NT$100 million ransom, delivered directly to Wu's captor by Wu's wife. Lin Rong-san (; 27 May 1939 – 28 November 2015) was a Taiwanese politician, publisher and businessman. He was the founder of Union Bank of Taiwan, and the publisher of ''Liberty Times'' and ''Taipei Times''. Tsai Wan-lin (; 10 November 1924 – 27 September 2004) was a Taiwanese businessman who, at the peak of his wealth in 1996, was considered to be the fifth richest person in the world, with a family net worth of US$12.2 billion. At the time of his death in 2004, he was the richest man in Taiwan with a fortune of US$4.6 billion (NT$156.3 billion), ranked 94th worldwide.
