Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. Eddie Griffiths
Edward James Griffiths (1891-1980) was an Australian fire fighter, veteran of the Gallipoli campaign and a three-time premiership-winning rugby league player with the Eastern Suburbs club. Career and war service Born in Pyrmont, New South Wales in 1891, Eddie Griffiths joined the fire service as a Brigades Cadet Corp at just sixteen years of age and his exploits since that time are legendary. Current station commander of the ‘D’ Platoon in the NSW Fire Brigade recalls Griffiths as a tough fearless man who always led by example, describing him as ''“Our greatest fire fighter”''......''”A legend in the true sense of the word”''. Thomas Fraser Bruce (1885–1917) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer in the New South Wales Rugby League competition and an Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) officer who fell in World War I at the Battle of Passchendale. Early life and football career Born in Braidwood, New South Wales to parents Robert and Margaret Bruce, the family relocated to Sydney. His mother later lived in the Sydney suburb of Kensington. Michael Frawley (1885–1919) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer who played for the Eastern Suburbs club in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership. Club career Mick Frawley was born in Woollahra, New South Wales in 1885, and was an Eastern Suburbs rugby union junior. A second-row forward, Mick Frawley was a member of Eastern Suburbs' first premiership decider in rugby league's foundation season of 1908. In 1911, Frawley was a member of Easts first premiership winning side. He played his last game for the club in 1912 and retired after sustaining an injury. Percy Rowett White (1888–1918) was an Australian pioneer rugby league player. He played in the New South Wales Rugby League competition at the time of the code's Australian foundation in 1908, and won a premiership with Sydney's Sydney Roosters, Eastern Suburbs club in 1912.
