South Korea has submitted films to compete for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1962. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Korean nominee is chosen annually by a special committee assembled by the Korean Film Council. South Korea has submitted thirty-three films for consideration. In 2019, ''Burning'' became the first Korean film to make it to the final nine-film shortlist of the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2020, ''Parasite'' became the first South Korean film to earn a nomination for Best International Feature Film; it also was the first Korean film nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. A bong (also known as a water pipe) is a filtration device generally used for smoking cannabis, tobacco, or other herbal substances. The 37th Academy Awards honored film achievements of 1964. For the first time, an award was presented in the field of makeup. The Best Picture winner of 1964, director George Cukor's ''My Fair Lady'', was about the transformative training of a rough-speaking flower girl into a lady. The musical had run for many years on the stage in both NYC and London. Audrey Hepburn, the female lead of the film, was controversially not nominated for Best Actress. ''The Houseguest and My Mother'' () is a 1961 South Korean film directed by Shin Sang-ok. It is based on a best-selling novel by Chu Yo-Sup, it was given the Best Film award at the 1961 Asia Pacific Film Festival. The 35th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film for 1962, were held on April 8, 1963, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California, hosted by Frank Sinatra. Ceremony The Best Actress Oscar occasioned the last act of the long-running feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. They had starred together for the first time in '' What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?'', a surprise hit the previous summer. Davis was nominated for her role as the title character, a faded child star who humiliates the wheelchair-using sister who eclipsed her fame in adulthood, while Crawford was not. Korean Language
Korean ( South Korean: , ''hangugeo''; North Korean: , ''chosŏnmal'') is the native language for about 80 million people, mostly of Korean descent. It is the official and national language of both North Korea and South Korea (geographically Korea), but over the past years of political division, the two Koreas have developed some noticeable vocabulary differences. Beyond Korea, the language is recognised as a minority language in parts of China, namely Jilin Province, and specifically Yanbian Prefecture and Changbai County. The secret ballot, also known as the Australian ballot, is a voting method in which a voter's identity in an election or a referendum is anonymous. This forestalls attempts to influence the voter by intimidation, blackmailing, and potential vote buying. This system is one means of achieving the goal of political privacy. Secret ballots are used in conjunction with various voting systems. The most basic form of a secret ballot utilizes blank pieces of paper upon which each voter writes their choice. Without revealing the votes to anyone, the voter folds the ballot paper in half and places it in a sealed box. This box is later emptied for counting. Jang Hoon (born May 4, 1975) is a Koreans, South Korean film director. He directed the films ''Rough Cut (2008 film), Rough Cut'' (2008), ''Secret Reunion'' (2010), ''The Front Line (2011 film), The Front Line'' (2011), and ''A Taxi Driver '' (2017).
