Yu Hyun-mok
Yu Hyun-mok (July 2, 1925 – June 28, 2009) was a South Korean film director. Born in Sariwon, Hwanghae, Korea (North Korea today), he made his film debut in 1956 with ''Gyocharo'' (''Crossroads''). According to the website koreanfilm.org, his 1961 film ''Obaltan'' "has repeatedly been voted the best Korean film of all time in local critics' polls." Yu attended the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1963, where ''Variety'' called ''Obaltan'' a "remarkable film", and praised Yu's " illiantly detailed camera" and the film's "probing sympathy and rich characterizations." His dedication to the intellectual side of film and interest in using film to deal with social and political issues led him to have difficulties both with box-office-oriented producers, and with Korea's military government during the 1960s and 1970s. Lee Byung-il (1910-1978) was a South Korean film director and producer. He debuted with '' Spring on the Korean Peninsula'' in 1941, when Korea was still under the Japanese rule. His best known film, ''The Wedding Day'' (1956), was screened at the Berlin Film Festival - the first Korean film to do so. Today considered a classic, it has been listed as a Registered Cultural Property by the Korean Government in 2007 and chosen by Korea Post to be commemorated in a 2008 special stamps edition together with three other representative films from 1940-60s. Choi Eun-hee
Choi Eun-hee (; November 20, 1926 – April 16, 2018) was a South Korean actress, who was one of the country's most popular stars of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1978, Choi and her then ex-husband, movie director Shin Sang-ok, were abducted to North Korea, where they were forced to make films until they sought asylum at the U.S. embassy in Vienna in 1986. They returned to South Korea in 1999 after spending a decade in the United States. Biography Early career and success in South Korea Choi was born in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province in 1926. Her first acting role was in the 1947 film, ''A New Oath''.
