1999 Dubai Sevens
The 1999 Dubai Sevens was an international rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Dubai Exiles Rugby Ground between 2–3 December 1999. It was the 12th edition of the Dubai Sevens with it being inaugural event for the IRB Sevens World Series. Sixteen teams competed in the tournament and were divided into four groups of four teams with the top two qualifying through to the cup quarter-finals. After winning their group, New Zealand defeated Fiji in the cup final by a score of 38–14. In the minor placings, Australia won the plate final over France while Scotland won the bowl final over Zimbabwe. The 2001 World Games ( ja, 2001年ワールドゲームズ, 2001-Nen wārudogēmuzu), the sixth World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Akita, Japan. 2001 Cardiff Sevens
The 2001 Cardiff Sevens was an rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Rodney Parade with the finals being held at the Millennium Stadium. It took place between 2–3 June 2001 and was the first edition of the Cardiff Sevens and the final round of the 2000–01 World Sevens Series. Heading into the tournament, New Zealand held an eight point lead over Australia with a semi-final placing in the cup being enough to give New Zealand the title. After both teams qualified through to the cup knockout stage with them only conceding ten points between the two, they would meet in the cup final with New Zealand taking out not only the Cardiff Sevens but the World Series with a 31–5 win over Australia. In the minor placings, Fiji took out the plate final defeating Wales while England won the bowl over Portugal. The 2001 Kuala Lumpur Sevens was an international rugby sevens tournament that was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as the sixth leg of the 2000–01 World Sevens Series. It was the first Malaysia Sevens tournament to be hosted as part of the World Sevens Series, and the event took place at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on 21–22 April 2001. In their first event as hosts, Malaysia were defeated 36–5 by Canada in the Bowl quarterfinals whilst Australia won back to back Sevens titles for the first time by defeating New Zealand 19–17 in the Cup final. The 2000 Durban Sevens, also known as the 2000 South Africa Sevens, was an international rugby sevens tournament that was the first leg of the 2000–01 World Sevens Series. The tournament, which took place at the ABSA Stadium on 18–19 November 2000, was moved from Stellenbosch to Durban for the 2000–01 and 2001–02 seasons.
