Slivovitz
Slivovitz is a fruit spirit (or fruit brandy) made from damson plums, often referred to as plum spirit (or plum brandy). If anyone else has a dictionary of some Slavic language that translates your word for slivovitz as "plum brandy", please add additional citations here. Slivovitz is produced in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, both commercially and privately. Primary producers include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. In the Balkans, slivovitz is considered a kind of '' rakia''. In Central Europe it is considered a kind of pálinka (Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine—pálenka, or Greece, Romania and Italy-pălincă), and similar to Romanian țuică, corresponding to the distilled spirits category. Lyaskovets
Lyaskovets ( bg, Лясковец ) is a town in central northern Bulgaria, located in homonymous municipality of Veliko Tarnovo Province, 10 km northeast of Veliko Tarnovo, 2 km southeast of Gorna Oryahovitsa and 5 km south of the Yantra River, north of the Balkan Mountains. Its name comes from the word ''leska'' ('hazel') or ''leshnik'' ('hazelnut'), because the tree was abundant in the area. Vizovice
Vizovice (; german: Wisowitz) is a town in Zlín District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 4,800 inhabitants. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts The village of Chrastěšov is an administrative part of Vizovice. Geography Vizovice is located about east of Zlín. It is located on the small river of Lutoninka. It lies in the Vizovice Highlands, which is named after the town. History The first written mention of Vizovice is from 1261, when it was owned by the newly established Smilheim monastery. During the Hussite Wars, the monastery and the village were badly damaged and looted. In 1483, the estate was acquired by the lords of Kunštát, and in 1485 the Cistercian monastery was definitely abolished. Zwack
Zwack is a Budapest, Hungary based company that makes liqueurs and spirits. The company produces an 80 proof (40% alcohol) herbal liqueur known as Unicum from a secret blend of more than forty different herbs and spices. Unicum is known as one of the national drinks of Hungary. The company is also a distributor of a range of international brands such as Johnnie Walker, Baileys, Smirnoff, Hennessy and Gordons. Zwack has been listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange since 1993. History According to the company, Unicum was created by Dr. József Zwack, the Royal Physician to the Habsburg Court, for Emperor Joseph II in 1790. In 1840 the family founded J. Zwack & Co., the first Hungarian liqueur manufacturer. By the early 1900s, the Zwack company had become one of the largest distilleries in central Europe, producing and exporting over 200 liqueurs and spirits. Polmos
Polmos (acronym for ''Polski Monopol Spirytusowy'', Polish Spirits Monopoly) was a Polish state-owned monopoly, controlling the Polish market for alcoholic beverages. Founded in the late 1920s, until World War II it was one of the leading vodka producers in Poland. Distilleries of Polmos were relatively modern and efficient at that time so the company exported its products to some European countries. After the war the company became an absolute monopoly and, like other distilleries, was nationalized by the government of the People's Republic of Poland. The newly created monopoly adopted the name ''Polmos''. After the fall of communism in 1989, the monopoly was divided into several independent enterprising entities, each owning one of the distilleries and one or two of the brands of the alcoholic drinks. Clear Creek Distillery is a distillery based in Hood River, Oregon, United States, and formerly in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1985, it has been owned by Hood River Distillers since 2014. It is most well known for its ''eau de vie'' produced from Bartlett pears, though today it also makes a variety of other fruit brandies, aged spirits, and liqueurs. History Clear Creek Distillery was founded in 1985 by Stephen McCarthy. The McCarthy family had owned orchards in Oregon since the turn of the century, although Stephen had been running the family's alternative business of manufacturing parts for hunting guns. This endeavor required travel to Europe, where he encountered the Alsace tradition of producing pear ''eau de vie''. He decided to begin making ''eau de vie'' from the Bartlett pears grown widely in Oregon after concluding they were similar to the Williams pears that were often used for ''eau de vie'' production in Europe.
