Sindhi People
Sindhis ( sd, سنڌي Perso-Arabic: सिन्धी Devanagari; ) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the province of Sindh in Pakistan. After the partition of British Indian empire in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Sikhs migrated to the newly independent Dominion of India and other parts of the world. Pakistani Sindhis are predominantly Muslim with a smaller Sikh and Hindu minority, whereas Indian Sindhis are predominantly Hindu with a Sikh, Jain and Muslim minority. Sindhi people have been native to Sindh throughout history, apart from that their historical region has always came from the South-eastern side of Balochistan, the Bahawalpur region of Punjab and the Kutch region of Gujarat, India. Seth Vishandas Nihalchand
Vishandas Nihalchand (1843-1929) was a Sindhi Hindu politician, social reformer, and philanthropist. He belonged to a merchant-landowner bhavnani family settled in Sindh of British India. Seth Vishandas established many cotton ginning and rice threshing factories in different areas of Sindh, such as Manjhu, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Dadu and Badin. He also was involved with Sindh political and social services. Early life Birth and education Seth Vishandas was born in Manjhu, a village in Tehsil Kotri, Sindh of Talpur dynasty in 1843 AD, one month before the invasion of Sindh and annexation to British India. He was full-blooded Sindhi, as his father and mother both were of Sindhi origin. When he was 18 years old, he left his family home to seek a teacher. Dayaram Gidumal
Dayaram Gidumal Shahani (30 June 1857 – 7 December 1927) or Rishi Dayaram, was an Indian social reformer, judge, poet, and scholar. He was known as the godfather of Sindhi Hindus. Life Born in Hyderabad, Sindh, Dayaram received his early education in Persian at home from Akhoond Noor Mahammed. He later studied at Elphinstone College in Bombay and joined the Civil Service. He rose to the position of Judicial Commissioner in Sindh but chose not to accept a position as High Court Judge. He helped establish the D.J. Sindh College in Karachi and supported education for women. He was a scholar of Arabic, Persian, and Sanskrit. He retired in 1911 to Bombay where he lived in a "Blue Bungalow" on the beach. He founded the Seva Sadan along with Behramji Malabari. He published numerous books including ''Sata saheliyun'' (Seven girl-friends, 1906) and ''Chabak mana lai ain rihan'' (Lashes for the mind, 1923–29). Dadi Leela
Dadi Leela (born Leelavati Harchandani; 20 December 1916 14 September 2017; sometimes spelled Dadi Leelan) was a Pakistani educationist, music teacher, philanthropist, and a former member of Sindh provincial assembly known for her advocacy of women's education. She also contributed to Sindhi culture and literature. The recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her contribution to the field of education, she worked as additional director of schools in Hyderabad and deputy and provincial commissioner for the Girl Guides till 1975. Later in 1985, she was appointed or selected as a Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA). She was the oldest surviving amil of Sindh. Dr Ali Ahmed S Kazi (1896–1970) was one of the few physicians in Sind Province when Sindh was created as a province in British India in 1936. Family He was born in 1896 and was a nephew of the great intellectual Allama I. I. Kazi and his illustrious wife Elsa Kazi. His father, Sharafuddin Kazi died when he was still quite young. Career Dr A. S. Kazi played a pioneering role initially in creating the Liaquat Medical College now the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences from the existing medical school at Hyderabad.
