Schools Of Ambition
The Schools of Ambition programme, also called the Schools of Ambition initiative, was a government programme in Scotland that aimed to improve school character and performance by offering struggling secondary schools philanthropist money and an extra annual £100,000 in government funding for three years. This would then be spent towards implementing a transformation plan that could include environmental changes, investment into curricula and staff, and cooperation with businesses, sixth forms and the local community. Participating schools became Schools of Ambition, specialist schools that likely had a change in management, which aimed to stand out as innovating, leading schools that would inspire the youth. The scheme was launched by Jack McConnell's Labour–Liberal Democrat coalition government in 2005 and discontinued by Alex Salmond's SNP government in 2010. St Ninian's High School, Kirkintilloch
St. Ninian's High School is a Roman Catholic co-educational comprehensive secondary school, located in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal. Admissions There are currently over 900 students in attendance with an average of 5/6 classes in each year. Each class has no more than 30 pupils. St Ninians is a Roman Catholic School. Inverness High School
Inverness High School is a secondary school on Montague Row in Inverness, Scotland. Admissions From a peak of over 1,600 pupils, the school's current roll is around 450. Its feeders are Central, Dalneigh, Bishop Eden's, St Joseph's and Merkinch Primary Schools. It is situated west of the river and west of ''Kenneth Street'' ( A82). In 2005, it became one of the first twenty eight schools in Scotland to be awarded Schools of Ambition status. The current Rector at Inverness High School is John Rutter, who succeeded Ritchie Cunningham who retired after 23 and a half years as Rector in April 2014. Charleston Academy
Charleston Academy ( Gaelic:''Àrd Sgoil Bhaile Theàrlaich'') is a secondary school established in 1978, in the Kinmylies area of Inverness, Scotland. The present roll is 724 pupils. The catchment area includes Kinmylies, Muirtown, Leachkin and Clachnaharry in the west of Inverness, as well as the rural communities of Beauly, Kirkhill, Kiltarlity, Struy, Abriachan and Dochgarroch. About Charleston Academy opened in August 1978 on a new site to the west of Inverness. The school is part of the Charleston Academy Community Campus which consists of the school, its associated Community Centre and the Highland Football Academy. St Margaret Mary's Secondary School is a co-educational, denominational, comprehensive secondary school located in Castlemilk, Glasgow, Scotland. History The school originally opened in 1962. The original buildings were demolished in 2002, with a new, smaller school opening in 2004. This was part of a widespread program of rebuilding and refurbishing schools throughout Glasgow by Glasgow City Council in a PFI program. St Oswald's Secondary School and St Margaret Marys Secondary School are now working together at the St Margaret Mary's Secondary School building. Springburn Academy
Springburn ( gd, Allt an Fhuairainn) is an inner-city district in the north of the Scottish city of Glasgow, made up of generally working-class households. Springburn developed from a rural hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century. Its industrial expansion began with the establishment of a chemical works by Charles Tennant on the newly opened Monkland Canal at nearby St. Rollox in 1799, which later became part of the United Alkali Company. Later in the 19th century, the construction of railway lines through the area led to the establishment of railway works and the village became a parish in its own right. The Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway first opened in 1831 to supply the St. Rollox Chemical Works and the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway was opened in 1842. Castlemilk High School
Castlemilk High School is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school located in Castlemilk, Glasgow, Scotland. It was established in 1990 from a merger of the district's two existing nondenominational high schools due to falling population figures, Glenwood Secondary (built 1958, which closed and was demolished, later replaced by a business park) and Grange Secondary (built 1968, which was used as the new campus for Castlemilk High). Kirkland High School
Kirkland High School (formerly known as Kirkland High School and Community College and Kirkland Junior High School) was a six-year comprehensive school in Methil that served the population in the Levenmouth area, Scotland. From January 2005 until June 2016 the head teacher was Ronnie Ross. In June 2012 Fife Council proposed that the school should merge with neighbouring Buckhaven High School to create Levenmouth Academy. The plans were approved in April 2014 and the new school opened to pupils on 17 August 2016. In September 2015 the student roll was 421, less than half of the roll of 900 the school had in 2000. History The Kirkland Junior High School was established in 1963 to accommodate the extra influx of pupils to the existing Aberhill Secondary. Kirkcaldy High School
Kirkcaldy High School is a 6-year co-educational comprehensive state school in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. History The school was established in 1582 as Kirkcaldy Burgh School; the "High School" name dates from the middle part of the 19th century. The school's motto is ''Usque conabor'', "I will strive to my utmost". The High School was originally on St Brycedale Avenue and part of the old building is now incorporated into Kirkcaldy College. In 1958 a new school was built on Dunnikier Way in the shape of a 'H' and opened by Queen Elizabeth II. In 1970 the last entrance exams for the school were taken after which pupils were zoned into their nearest high school. Queensferry High School
Queensferry High School (also known as Queensferry Community High School) is a six-year comprehensive school in the town of South Queensferry, Scotland, run by the City of Edinburgh Council. It was opened in 1970 by Princess Margaret marking the 900th anniversary of the arrival of Queen Margaret in Queensferry. Currently it has 1036 students, predominantly from Echline Primary School, Queensferry Primary School, Dalmeny Primary School and Kirkliston Primary School. It was made a School of Ambition in 2007.
