''Ripper Street'' is a British mystery drama television series set in Whitechapel in the East End of London starring Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg, and MyAnna Buring. It begins in 1889, six months after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. Andy Wilson (director)
Andy Wilson (born 1958) is a British film, TV and theatre director. Early career Wilson began his career as a performer with Circus Lumiere. He was one of the directors (with Cindy Oswin, Brian Lipson and Peter Godfrey) of the experimental theatre group Rational Theatre and also a performer with Archaos, the celebrated anarchist French circus troupe. Wilson studied drama at Birmingham University from 1976 to 1979 and then worked as an actor for three years before joining the London-based Rational Theatre and subsequently establishing the Hidden Grin Theatre. Film and television directing Wilson began his transition to film and television by directing numerous music videos, notably for techno duo Underworld. The Mahdist War ( ar, الثورة المهدية, ath-Thawra al-Mahdiyya; 1881–1899) was a war between the Mahdist Sudanese of the religious leader Muhammad Ahmad bin Abd Allah, who had proclaimed himself the "Mahdi" of Islam (the "Guided One"), and the forces of the Khedivate of Egypt, initially, and later the forces of Britain. Eighteen years of war resulted in the nominally joint-rule state of the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan (1899–1956), a ''de jure'' condominium of the British Empire and the Kingdom of Egypt in which Britain had ''de facto'' control over the Sudan. Lobotomy
A lobotomy, or leucotomy, is a form of neurosurgical treatment for psychiatric disorder or neurological disorder (e.g. epilepsy) that involves severing connections in the brain's prefrontal cortex. The surgery causes most of the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex, the anterior part of the frontal lobes of the brain, to be severed. In the past, this treatment was used for treating psychiatric disorders as a mainstream procedure in some countries. The procedure was controversial from its initial use, in part due to a lack of recognition of the severity and chronicity of severe and enduring psychiatric illnesses, so it was claimed to be an inappropriate treatment.
