Provinces And Territories Of Canada
Within the geographical areas of Canada, the ten provinces and three territories are sub-national administrative divisions under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Constitution. In the 1867 Canadian Confederation, three provinces of British North America—New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada (which upon Confederation was divided into Ontario and Quebec)—united to form a federation, becoming a fully independent country over the next century. Érik Canuel
Érik Canuel (born 1961) is a film director and actor from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Canuel, the son of actor Yvan Canuel, began his career in the mid-1980s making music videos for such artists as Paul Piché, Sass Jordan, Norman Iceberg, Vilain Pingouin and Sylvain Cossette. After shooting a number of TV commercials, several of them award-winners, he worked as a director on the television series ''Big Wolf on Campus'', for the Fox network, and ''The Hunger'', broadcast on Showtime and The Movie Network. In 2000, his Imax film ''Hemingway: A Portrait'' won a Genie Award for best short documentary, as well as the Maximum Image Award for best 2D film at the Miami Aventura Imax Days. Sophie Deraspe
Sophie Deraspe (born October 27, 1973) is a Canadian director, scenarist, director of photography and producer. Prominent in new Quebec cinema, she is known for a 2015 documentary ''The Amina Profile'', an exploration of the Amina Abdallah Arraf al Omari hoax of 2011. She had previously written and directed the narrative feature films ''Missing Victor Pellerin'' () in 2006, ''Vital Signs'' () in 2009, ''The Wolves'' () in 2015, In 2019 she wrote, directed and shot ''Antigone'', inspired by the 2008 death of Fredy Villanueva in Montreal and loosely adapting the play by Sophocles, saying the story of a woman who defies the law for something greater resonated with her, and she wished to update it. Rock Demers
Rock Demers, (December 11, 1933August 17, 2021) was a Canadian film producer. He was the founder of the film company ''Les Productions la Fête'' and produced the '' Tales for All'' film series for children. Early life Demers was born in Sainte-Cécile-de-Lévrard, Quebec, on December 11, 1933. He was raised in rural Quebec, and described his childhood as "very poor, but very happy". He initially studied to become a teacher, before obtaining a diploma in audio-visual technology at the École Normale de St. Cloud in Paris. He then travelled around Europe and Asia for two years, during which he became acquainted with Vojta Jasny, Břetislav Pojar, and Krzysztof Zanussi. Patrick Demers
Patrick Demers is a film director from Montreal, born in 1969 in Saint-Eustache, Quebec. Biography Following his graduation from film school at the age of 22, Demers traveled around the world alone over six months with a handheld camera for ''La Course destination monde'' ( Radio-Canada Television) and started shooting. After a few years working as a director in the television and advertising industries, his first short fiction film, ''Discharge (Décharge)'', won the award for Best Canadian Short Film at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2003 he wrote and directed "Dans un spoutnik", an animated music video for Daniel Bélanger which won several awards in the ADISQ Gala and at the MuchMusic Video Awards that year. Mireille Dansereau
Mireille Dansereau (born December 19, 1943) is a Canadian director and screenwriter who is known for "emulating the style and approach of her aesthetic role model, John Cassavetes". Biography Mireille Dansereau was a dancer for 15 years before turning to filmmaking. After finishing her studies at the University of Montreal, she made her first film, a short entitled ''Moi, un jour...'' for Expo 67. The film was well received and enabled her to move to London, England to attend the Royal College of Art. She obtained her master's degree in Film and Television and made another short film, ''Compromise'', which won first prize at the 1969 Great Britain Student Film Festival. Fernand Dansereau
Fernand Dansereau (born April 5, 1928) is a Canadian film director and film producer. Biography After five years working as a reporter for the Montreal daily Le Devoir, Dansereau joined the NFB in 1955. He was a founding member of the NFB's French Unit and until 1960, he wrote and directed several feature films and documentaries for the series ''Panorama''. He worked on the television series ''Temps présent'' from 1960 to 1964 and then returned to directing with the fiction feature ''Le festin des morts'' which won 2 Canadian Film Awards including Best Feature Film in 1966. He left the NFB in 1970 for the private sector. Paul Cowan (filmmaker)
Paul Cowan is a Canadian filmmaker who spent the bulk of his career with the National Film Board of Canada. Career Cowan was nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Feature for '' Going the Distance'', a documentary about the 1978 Commonwealth Games. He was the director of the controversial docudrama '' The Kid Who Couldn't Miss'' and cinematographer on the Oscar-winning '' Flamenco at 5:15''. Michèle Cournoyer
Michèle Cournoyer (born November 14, 1943) is a Canadian animator who on 1 March 2017 received a Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts for her body of work. Early life Born in Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel, Quebec, Cournoyer began drawing at the age of five, and started painting at 12 when she was hospitalized, and her father bought her an oil paint set. At the age of 17, she had to halt her art education when her mother became ill, with Cournoyer caring for her ailing mother and the family. Her mother died when Cournoyer was 20 years of age. After two years studying in Quebec City, she moved to Montreal, then to London to study graphic arts. Studying in London during the 1960s, she was influenced by Pop Art, the Dada movement and surrealism. Denis Côté
Denis Côté (born November 16, 1973) is an independent filmmaker and producer living in Quebec, of Brayon origin. His experimental films have been shown at major film festivals around the world. Life and career Côté was born in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, Canada. He studied film at Collège Ahuntsic in Montreal and founded nihilproductions around 1994. He made a number of short films, including ''Kosovolove'' (2000) and ''La sphatte'' (2003). Denis Chouinard
Denis Chouinard (born 1964 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian film director and screenwriter. He has a degree in Filmmaking from Cégep de Saint-Laurent and a degree in Communications from UQAM. He is a close friend and collaborator of filmmaker Louis Bélanger; both men created several short films together before branching off into their own careers with feature films.
