Perth Glory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was formed in 1995 and played its first competitive match in the first round of the 1996–97 National Soccer League in October 1996. They have played at their current home ground, Perth Oval, since their establishment. Perth is one of the three A-League clubs to survive the demise of the National Soccer League, the previous top division in Australian soccer. The club has participated in every A-League season since being implemented into the inaugural A-League season in 2005. Perth has won a total of six major trophies, including the League Premiership four times and the League Championship twice. The club has also participated in six Grand Finals (Four in the National Soccer League and two in the A-League), two Australia Cup finals, two A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup finals, and one AFC Champions League competition. The 2001–02 National Soccer League season, was the 26th season of the National Soccer League in Australia. Prior to the start of the season, Canberra Cosmos and Eastern Pride were removed from the competition, reducing the league to 13 teams. Damian Mori (born 30 September 1970) is an Australian former football player who is an assistant coach for Adelaide United. He won two Johnny Warren Medals, awarded to the best player in the Australian league and was top scorer on 5 occasions. He established a reputation as a pacy, poaching goalscorer, which is notable for a player who started his career as a defender. Early and personal life Mori was born in Box Hill North, Victoria in 1970. His father, Joseph Mori, was a footballer who emigrated from Slovenia. His paternal grandfather was of Italian ancestry. Club career Mori was successful at club level – mainly in the Australian domestic league. 2000–01 Perth Glory SC Season
The 2000–2001 Perth Glory SC season was the club's fifth in the Australian National Soccer League (NSL). The club finished third on the table, losing in the elimination final to the Melbourne Knights. It was the final season in charge for head coach Bernd Stange who left the club in mid-2001. Background The Glory entered the 2000–01 season having lost the 2000 NSL Grand Final on penalties. The "villain" of the day, James Afkos was released by the club, signed by Marconi-Fairfield. Afkos, son of minority owner and deputy chairman Paul Afkos, claimed that he had been released on board orders, rather than a coaching decision. Alistair Edwards
Alistair Martin Edwards (born 21 June 1968) is a former soccer player and coach. A prominent forward, he made a name for himself with National Soccer League clubs Sydney Olympic and Perth Glory. He was also a favourite with Malaysian League teams Sarawak FA, Selangor FA, Singapore FA, Johor FA and Kedah FA in the 1990s. The 2000 National Soccer League Grand Final was held on 11 June 2000 between Perth Glory and Wollongong Wolves at Subiaco Oval. Perth Glory had gained home-ground advantage as they were the higher ranked team from the regular season, finishing first to the Wolves's third. The 1999–2000 National Soccer League season, was the 24th season of the National Soccer League in Australia. Overview 1999–2000 was the first season since a 1995–96 rebrand to be officially known as the National Soccer League after Ericsson withdrew their sponsorship shortly before the season. The league was originally scheduled for 17 teams, however with the late withdrawal of the Southern Stars, (previously Adelaide Sharks and West Adelaide) Soccer Australia was forced to redraw fixtures less than a week out from the season. The 1999–2000 Perth Glory SC season was the club's fourth in the Australian National Soccer League (NSL). The club won the NSL minor premiership as the leading team in the league. Constantinos "Con" Boutsianis (born 27 December 1971 in Melbourne) is an Australian football (soccer) player and former international, noted for his ability in dead ball situations. Career South Melbourne FC After impressive performances for the South Melbourne youth side, Ferenc Puskas placed faith in the young winger and called him up to the senior side. Boutsianis began his senior career with South Melbourne in the National Soccer League in 1989, and soon established himself as a goalscoring midfielder.
