Pashto Language
Pashto (,; , ) is an Eastern Iranian language in the Indo-European language family. It is known in historical Persian literature as Afghani (). Spoken as a native language mostly by ethnic Pashtuns, it is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan alongside Dari,Constitution of Afghanistan ''Chapter 1 The State, Article 16 (Languages) and Article 20 (Anthem)''/ref> and it is the second-largest provincial language of Pakistan, spoken mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern districts of Balochistan. Beltoon
Momin Khan Biltoon ( ps, مومن خان بیلتون; fa, بلتون), also known as his honorific title Ustad Beltoon, was an Afghan Pashtun singer from Kabul Province, Afghanistan. He was born in Chakari village of Khaki Jabbar District, Kabul. However, he spent most of his life in Logar Province of Afghanistan. Biltoon sang in both Pashto and Dari languages. His style of music reflects the Kharabat style of Kabul. Biltoon's father died before he was born, and his mother did so when he was young. He was raised by his sister in Logar Province of Afghanistan. Biltoon learned the rubab and tanbur at a young age. He started singing at the age of 15. Shafi Muhammad Shah
Shafi Muhammad Shah (or Shafi Mohammad) ( ur, شفیع محمد شاہ) PP (7 September 1949–17 November 2007) was a Pakistani film and television actor. Popularly known as ''Shah-jee'', he was born in Kandiaro, Naushahro Feroze District, Sindh. Career Shafi began his career as a radio presenter from the Hyderabad radio station. He obtained a postgraduate degree from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. He later moved to Karachi and began his career as an actor. Dr. Mohammad Sadiq Fitrat, born Sadiq Fitrat Habibi, (Pashto/Dari: ), known professionally as Nashenas (Pashto/Dari: ), is one of the oldest surviving musicians from Afghanistan. His fame began in the late 1950s, and since then he has produced many albums consisting of Pashto, Dari, and Urdu songs. He is known as "the Afghan Saigal". Background Nashenas was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan to an ethnic Pashtun family. He belongs to the famous Habibi family who are Kakar by tribe. This is a religious family which descends from Habibullah Kakar, or Habibullah Akhundzada. His primary education was in Kandahar. After his father was appointed by the National Bank of Karachi, he moved to British India where he lived without his mother. Rezwan Munawar
Rezwan Munawar ( ps, رضوان منور, born January 1, 1964) is a Pashto folklore singer who started singing in 1985. He is ethnically Pashtun and belongs to the Safi tribe originally from Mazar valley of Nurgal district of Kunar. He was born in Kuz Kunar district of Nangarhar province in 1964 where he also studied and graduated from Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan High School in 1981. Early life In 1982 Munawar started working as a school teacher in Ahmad Kot Intermediate and then in Tawakal baba Intermediate School of Kuz Kunar district. He served twice in the military as a conscript. During the years of the Taliban in Afghanistan, in 1993 he migrated to Pakistan. Khyal Muhammad
Ustad Khyal Muhammad (, born 1946) is a Pashtun singer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He has appeared regularly on television, usually singing ghazals and in movies. Career Khyal Mohammad belongs to the Afridi tribe of Pushtuns. He is originally from Tirah in Khyber Tribal District. He was born in Peshawar on 5 January 1946 to a musical family. His brother Saif Ul-Maluk was a popular singer in the 1960s, who often performed on Radio Peshawar. Saif introduced him to the radio station, where he first performed in 1958 at age of thirteen. However, for the next ten years he mainly restricted himself to playing instruments such as the tabla and harmonium. In the late 1960s he began singing and recording ghazals, traditional Pashto poems, a daring gamble since the music scene at that time was dominated by folk music. Ghazala Javed
Ghazala Javed ( ps, ; 1 January 1988 – 18 June 2012) was a Pashtun playback singer from Swat Valley, Pakistan. She began singing since 2004 and was "popular with young, progressive ethnic Pashtun people, Pashtuns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her music was famous not only in Pakistan but also in neighbouring Afghanistan and among Pashtun diaspora, Pashtuns around the world. Career Ghazala was born on 1 January 1988 in Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Ubaidullah Jan
Obaidullah Jan Kandaharai ( ps, عبیدالله جان کندهاری, translit=Obāidullāh Jān Kāndāhāri ), or simply known as Obaidullah Jan, was a singer from Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was popular among the Pashtuns in southern Afghanistan and in Quetta, Pakistan. He brought some new style to traditional Pashto music and was considered a classical singer. He recorded many albums with lyrics written by Sayed Abdul Khaliq Agha, a famous Pashto poet from Kandahar, Afghanistan.
