Wellingborough School
Wellingborough School is a co-educational day independent school in the market town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. It was established in 1595 and is one of the oldest schools in the country. The school today consists of a Prep school (ages 3–10) Senior school (ages 11–16) and a sixth form (ages 16–18). History The original school was a Tudor grammar school in the centre of the town; its original building, built 1617 at a cost of 25 pounds, still survives, now occupied by a local cafe. In January 1881 the school moved under the 28th headmaster to its present site on the edge of Wellingborough. During World War I, about 1,060 alumni of the school saw action. These included the flying-ace Henry Winslow Woollett, famous for 35 victories in the air. 181 old boys and masters were killed in action, among them the former school chaplain, Bernard Vann, who was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously. Lieutenant-General Sir Peter Hudson (14 September 1923 – 8 August 2000) was a British Army officer who served as Deputy Commander of UK Land Forces. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail ( Jawi: توانكو سيد سراج الدين ابن المرحوم توانكو سيد ڤوترا جمال الليل; born 17 May 1943) is the 7th and current Raja of Perlis, reigning since 17 April 2000. Daniel Roan (born 31 December 1976) is the sports editor for BBC News, currently employed by BBC Sport. Biography Daniel Roan was born on 31 December 1976 and was brought up in Northampton, England. Roan went to Wellingborough School. He matriculated at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in 1995 to read Social and Political Sciences. He graduated with a second-class degree in 1998. In 2012, Roan was banned from all media activity involving Manchester City following an interview with Patrick Vieira, which had been originally arranged to promote Football Against Hunger, a charity Vieira was involved with. Richard Peck (British Army Officer)
Richard Leslie Peck (born 27 May 1937) CB is a former English first-class cricketer and British Army officer. Peck served mostly with the Royal Engineers in a military career that spanned from 1957 to 1997, rising to the rank of major-general. He also played two first-class cricket matches for the Combined Services cricket team. Military career Peck was educated at Wellingborough School, before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He graduated from Sandhurst in December 1957, where upon he entered the Royal Engineers as a second lieutenant. In December 1959, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Andrew Loog Oldham
Andrew Loog Oldham (born 29 January 1944) is an English record producer, talent manager, impresario and author. He was manager and producer of the Rolling Stones from 1963 to 1967, and was noted for his flamboyant style. Early life Loog Oldham's father, Andrew Loog, was a United States Army Air Force lieutenant, a New Orleanian of German descent, who served with the Eighth Air Force. Loog was killed in June 1943 when his B-17 bomber was shot down over the English Channel, and he was buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium. Robert Edwin Newbery
Robert Edwin Newbery MC (1884–1967) was one of the two founding partners of Dale and Newbery, the firm of solicitors that has had offices in Southeast England since 1911. He also co-invented the internal triple air flow regulator for the oil burning lamp, which widened the flame for increased light emittance. Education Robert Edwin Newbery was born on 24 April 1884 in Shoreditch London, son of John Newbery and Elizabeth Temperance Gravatt. Colin McAlpin (9 April 1870 – 13 May 1942) was an English composer of songs, operas and ballet music, an organist and a writer of critical essays on music. Life Colin McAlpin was born in 1870, at 15 Gallowtree Gate, Leicester, England. He was the fourth child of a clothier John William McAlpin, and his German wife Marie Louise (née Gerdes). His elder siblings were Kenneth, Donal and Janet, and his younger brothers Alan and John.
