Cinema Of Orissa
The Odia film industry, colloquially known as Ollywood, is the Odia language Indian film industry, based in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood. Industry In 1974, the Government of Odisha declared film making and construction of cinema theatres as an industry in the state, and in 1976 it established the Odisha Film Development Corporation in Cuttack. History Odisha has a history of filmmaking, starting from 1936. The first Odia film is '' Sita Bibaha'', made by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami in 1936. Drawn from the Indian epic ''Ramayana'', the story is about the marriage of Sita and Ram. The film plot was made from a drama written by Kamapala Mishra. Prepared with a budget of only Rs 30,000, the film has 14 song sequences. Mihir Das
Mihir Kumar Das (17 February 1959 – 11 January 2022) was an Indian actor who worked in Odia language films (Ollywood industry). He had received several awards, notably Best Actor for his films ''Laxmi Pratima'' in 1998 and ''Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni'' in 2005 Best Supporting Actor award for his films ''Rakhi Bandhili Mo Rakhiba Mana'' in 2002 and ''Prema Adhei Akhyara'' and Best Comedian award for ''Mu Tate Love Karuchhi'' in 2007 from the Odisha state government. Life and career Mihir Kumar Das was born in Mayurbhanj on 11 February 1959. He was married to singer and film artist Sangita Das, who died in 2010 due to heart attack. She was the daughter of the popular singer, Chitta Jena. Mihir Das and Sangita Das have two sons, the elder, Amlan Das who is also an actor and Aklant Das. Chandan Kar (born 16 September) is an Ollywood actor and IT Professional from the state of Odisha in India. He made his debut in the film Babu I Love You in 2006. Film career Kar was inexperienced before acting in his first movie, ''Babu I Love You'', in 2006. He was also featured in the movie ''De Maa Shakti De'' in the same year. ''Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01'' is a 2021 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Sukumar. Ashok Kumar (director)
Ashok Kumar (born Kumudlal Ganguly; 13 October 1911 – 10 December 2001), was an Indian actor who attained iconic status in Indian cinema. He was a pioneering actor who introduced natural acting to Hindi cinema. He is considered the first superstar of Hindi cinema in the black-and-white era of the 40s and 50s as well as the first lead actor to play an anti-hero. He also became the first star to reinvent himself, enjoying a long and hugely successful career as a character actor. He was a member of the cinematic Ganguly family. He was honoured in 1988 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national award for cinema artists, by the Government of India. Ajit Das
Ajit Das (20 January 1949 – 13 September 2020) was an Indian actor, director and playwright. He started acting in Ollywood with the Odia film Sindura Bindu. Biography He was born on 20 January 1949, in Karanjia, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. Ajit has been involved in drama since he was a child. His grandfather Sudhir Chandra Das was a playwright and he had a play troupe in Mayurbhanj. While there, he became interested in acting. Career Das started working in the world of Ollywood through the film Sindura Bindu, set in the 16th century. He played the villain in the film, which was directed by Dhir Bishwal.
