''Matlock (1986 TV series), Matlock'' is an American Mystery fiction, mystery legal drama television series created by Dean Hargrove and starring Andy Griffith. The series premiered on NBC on March 3, 1986, and aired there for the first six seasons until the network cancelled the series on May 8, 1992; it later moved to American Broadcasting Company, ABC on November 5, 1992, and ended on May 4, 1995 after nine seasons. ''Matlock'' is an American Mystery fiction, mystery legal drama television series created by Dean Hargrove and starring Andy Griffith in the title role of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. Debuting on March 3, 1986, the series aired on NBC until the sixth season finale on May 8, 1992; it was moved to American Broadcasting Company, ABC on November 5, 1992, continuing there for the remainder of its run until the series finale aired on May 7, 1995. Early life and military career James McEachin was born in Rennert, North Carolina on May 20, 1930. McEachin served in the United States Army before, and then during, the Korean War.
