MTV, the first and most popular music television network in the U.S. has a long history of hosting live music events in which awards are presented. Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica
Premios MTV Latinoamérica (previously known as MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica or VMALA's) was the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards. They were established in 2002 to celebrate the top music videos of the year in Latin America and the world. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Networks Latin America. Until 2004, all the VMALAs were held in Miami. The 2005 edition was the first one planned to be held outside the United States, but the show was cancelled ( see below). The 2006 VMALAs (Premios MTV Latinoamérica) were held in Mexico City, and therefore were the first ones to actually be celebrated in Latin America. In 2010 the awards were permanently cancelled. The statues given to winners of the award are called "''Lenguas''" because the statue is of a tongue. MTV Romania Music Awards
The MTV Romania Music Awards ( ro, Premiile Muzicale MTV România) have been held since 2002 celebrating Romanian music. Recipients of the awards have been Eurovision contestants and some have gone on to represent Romania in the competition. The awards were usually held in June. Since 2008 the show was cancelled. MTV Pakistan was the Pakistani subsidiary of MTV, a cable television network owned by Viacom. MTV Immies
The MTV Immies are held every year with an aim to award the best talents in the Indian music industry. In 2005 The Immies supported relief for the quake victims of India and Pakistan.
