Cinema Of Karnataka
Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film ''Sati Sulochana'' directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded ''South India Movietone'' in Bangalore. Major literary works have been adapted to the Kannada screen such as B. V. Girish Kasaravalli
Girish Kasaravalli (born 3 December 1950) is an Indian film director, in the Kannada cinema, and one of the pioneers of the Parallel Cinema. Known internationally for his works, Kasaravalli has garnered fourteen National Film Awards, including four Best Feature Films; ''Ghatashraddha'' (1977), '' Tabarana Kathe'' (1986), ''Thaayi Saheba'' (1997) and ''Dweepa'' (2002). In 2011, he was awarded with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by Government of India. A gold medalist from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, The film he made to fulfill his diploma, ''Avashesh'', was awarded the Best Student Film and the National Film Award for Best Short Fiction Film for that year. Abhimann Roy ( kan, ಅಭಿಮಾನ್ ರಾಯ್) is an Indian film score and soundtrack composer. He has predominantly scored music for Kannada films. He has also sung few of his own compositions. ''Poojari'' () is a 2007 Indian Kannada-language action drama film directed by Sharan and starring Adi Lokesh (in his lead debut) and Neethashree. The film was released alongside '' Arasu'' (2007) on Republic Day and was a box office failure despite having a large opening. After the film's failure, Adi Lokesh did not star in any film for a year. Joshua Sridhar (born 1974 in Chennai, India) is an Indian composer. He made his debut on the runaway hit Tamil film ''Kaadhal'' which was released on 8 December 2004. Early life and education Joshua Sridhar was born in Chennai on 9 March 1974 to Saravanan and Rajalakshmi. He studied at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram in Chennai from 1980 to 1990.
