Kannada Cinema
Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film ''Sati Sulochana'' directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded ''South India Movietone'' in Bangalore. Major literary works have been adapted to the Kannada screen such as B. V. Pakka Chukka
''Pakka Chukka'' is a 2003 Indian Kannada-language film directed by S. Narayan starring Ramesh Aravind and himself. Ruchita Prasad, Mahalakshmi, Doddanna, Mukhyamantri Chandru and Sundar Raj play supporting roles. The film released to negative reviews. Plot Rami and Nani disguise as their fathers (who are their lookalikes) and make a group of people believe that they are swamijis. After finding out that they have been tricked,people beat up the fathers since Rami and Nani ran away. While on the run, Rami and Nani run into a house where a newly married couple are ready to get in bed during their first night. The couple files a complaint to the police station. Umashree
Umashree (born 10 May 1957) is an Indian actress and politician. She is known for her portrayal of film roles spoken in the Kannada language (over 400), particularly comic roles. She received National Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Gulabi in the 2008 Kannada movie Gulabi Talkies. In 2013, Umashree became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka in the government of Siddaramaiah where she was the minister for women and child development, empowerment of the differently abled and senior citizens, Kannada language and culture. Abhirami () (née Divya Gopikumar; July 1983) is an Indian actress and television host. She has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. Darshan Thoogudeepa (born 16 February 1977) known mononymously as Darshan is an Indian actor, producer, and distributor who works predominantly in Kannada films. One of the leading contemporary actors of Kannada cinema, Darshan established the production house Thoogudeepa Productions in 2006. ''Laali Haadu'' ''(')'' is a 2003 Indian Kannada-language romantic musical film directed by H. Vasu and written by Ajay Kumar. The film stars Darshan and Abhirami. The film was produced by Sa Ra Govindu under his home production Thanu Pictures. Two music directors V. Manohar and Rajesh Ramanath were seen in supporting roles.
