Pentium II
The Pentium II brand refers to Intel's sixth-generation microarchitecture (" P6") and x86-compatible microprocessors introduced on May 7, 1997. Containing 7.5 million transistors (27.4 million in the case of the mobile Dixon with 256  KB L2 cache), the Pentium II featured an improved version of the first ''P6''-generation core of the Pentium Pro, which contained 5.5 million transistors. However, its L2 cache subsystem was a downgrade when compared to the Pentium Pros. It is a single-core microprocessor. In 1998, Intel stratified the Pentium II family by releasing the Pentium II-based Celeron line of processors for low-end workstations and the Pentium II Xeon line for servers and high-end workstations. The Celeron was characterized by a reduced or omitted (in some cases present but disabled) on-die full-speed L2 cache and a 66 MT/s FSB. The Xeon was characterized by a range of full-speed L2 cache (from 512 KB to 2048 KB), a 100 MT/s FSB, a different physical ...

MMC-2
Mobile Module Connector 2 (MMC-2) is Intel's 400-pin processor cartridge used with Pentium II, Celeron and Pentium III mobile processors. It contains CPU, 443BX (Pentium II) Northbridge, off-die L2 cache (early Pentium II only) and voltage regulator. It is the successor of MMC-1, main differences being AGP interface and 100 MHz FSB for the Pentium III. This processor cartridge was widely used on laptops from the late 1990s to early 2000s. Fastest processors in the MMC-2 form factor are: * Pentium II 400/256 * Pentium III 850/256 * Celeron 700/128 * Unofficially Pentium III 1000/256, this was achieved by removing the chip off a MMC-2 socket card and soldering a Pentium III 1000 processor on the board Intel MMC2 Pen-III 650MHz PMM65002101AB (component side) (15425888118).jpg Intel MMC2 Pen-III 650MHz PMM65002101AB (pin side) (15426002407).jpg See also * Notebook processor A notebook processor is a CPU optimized for laptops. List Of Intel Pentium Pro Processors
The Pentium Pro is the first of Intel's sixth-generation CPUs targeted at the consumer and server markets. The processor was relatively unusual in that the Pentium Pro used a unique "on-package cache" arrangement; the processor and the cache were on separate dies in the same package and were connected closely by a full-speed bus. The dies had to be bonded together early in the production process, before testing was possible. This meant that a single, tiny flaw in either die made it necessary to discard the entire assembly, which was one of the reasons for the Pentium Pro's relatively low production yield and high cost. Pentium Pro (.35 / .50 μm) * The 150 MHz Pentium Pro processor dies (B0, C0) used a 0.50 μm BiCMOS process. * The 166, 180, and 200 MHz Pentium Pro processor dies (sA0, sA1, sB1) used a 0.35 μm CMOS process. * The sA0 stepping is logically equivalent to the C0 stepping, but on a different manufacturing process. * The 256 KB L2 cache dies (256/α, 256 ...

BGA2
A ball grid array (BGA) is a type of surface-mount packaging (a chip carrier) used for integrated circuits. BGA packages are used to permanently mount devices such as microprocessors. A BGA can provide more interconnection pins than can be put on a dual in-line or flat package. The whole bottom surface of the device can be used, instead of just the perimeter. The traces connecting the package's leads to the wires or balls which connect the die to package are also on average shorter than with a perimeter-only type, leading to better performance at high speeds. BGAs were introduced in the 1990s and became popular by 2001. Soldering of BGA devices requires precise control and is usually done by automated processes such as in computer-controlled automatic reflow ovens. Description The BGA is descended from the pin grid array (PGA), which is a package with one face covered (or partly covered) with pins in a grid pattern which, in operation, conduct electrical signals between ...

Micro-PGA2
Socket 495, sometimes referred to as µPGA2 is a CPU socket for the Intel Pentium III and Celeron mobile processors. This socket was also used in Microsoft's Xbox Console, but in a BGA (ball grid array) format for the Xbox CPU. This socket replaced Socket 615 (µPGA1), which was used in Pentium II and early Celeron mobile processors. Technical specifications This socket is a 495 pin CPU socket designed to house any processor in the Socket 495 package. The socket has a 1.27mm pitch and is designed to support a heatsink. Central Processing Unit
A central processing unit (CPU), also called a central processor, main processor or just processor, is the electronic circuitry that executes instructions comprising a computer program. The CPU performs basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions in the program. This contrasts with external components such as main memory and I/O circuitry, and specialized processors such as graphics processing units (GPUs). The form, design, and implementation of CPUs have changed over time, but their fundamental operation remains almost unchanged. Principal components of a CPU include the arithmetic–logic unit (ALU) that performs arithmetic and logic operations, processor registers that supply operands to the ALU and store the results of ALU operations, and a control unit that orchestrates the fetching (from memory), decoding and execution (of instructions) by directing the coordinated operations of the ALU, registers and other co ...
