Marshall County, Indiana
Marshall County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. Census 2020 recorded the population at 46,095. The county seat (and only city) is Plymouth. History The Indiana State Legislature passed an omnibus county bill on 7 February 1835 that authorized the creation of thirteen counties in northeast Indiana, including Marshall. It was named for U.S. Chief Justice John Marshall, who died in 1835. The government of the county was organized in 1836, during the early years of settlement and before the forced removal of the Potawatomi people in 1838. The first settlers had arrived in the county in 1835; they arrived as a result of the end of the Black Hawk War as well as the completion of the Erie Canal. They consisted primarily of settlers from New England, "Yankees" descended from the English Puritans who settled New England in the colonial era. The Indiana State Library and Historical Bureau is a public library building, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is the largest public library in the state of Indiana, housing over 60,000 manuscripts. Established in 1934, the library has gathered a large collection of books on a vast variety of topics. The first attempts to have a state library started when Indiana was still a territory with its capital in Corydon, making it the oldest agency of the Indiana government. Potawatomi Trail Of Death
The Potawatomi Trail of Death was the forced removal by militia in 1838 of about 859 members of the Potawatomi nation from Indiana to reservation lands in what is now eastern Kansas. The march began at Twin Lakes, Indiana (Myers Lake and Cook Lake, near Plymouth, Indiana) on November 4, 1838, along the western bank of the Osage River, ending near present-day Osawatomie, Kansas. During the journey of approximately over 61 days, more than 40 people died, most of them children. It was the single largest Indian removal in Indiana history. Although the Potawatomi had ceded their lands in Indiana to the federal government under a series of treaties made between 1818 and 1837, Chief Menominee and his Yellow River band at Twin Lakes refused to leave, even after the August 5, 1838, treaty deadline for departure. State Road 17 is a north–south road in Northern Indiana. Its southern terminus is at State Road 25 in Logansport. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 30 in Plymouth. State Road 8 in the U.S. State of Indiana consists of two disconnected segments that were never connected. Route description No part of SR 8 in Indiana is included as a part of the National Highway System (NHS). Indiana State Road 110
State Road 110 (SR 110) is an east–west state road, that consists of two discontinuous sections, in the northern part of the US state of Indiana. The western portion of SR 110 is just under long and connects SR 10 with U.S. Route 231 (US 231) in Jasper County. The eastern portion runs along the border between Fulton County and Marshall County; it is approximately long and connects SR 17 at the west end with SR 25 at the east end. Neither segment passes through any towns or cities and passes through mostly rural agriculture land. The SR 110 designation was first used in the early 1940s along the modern route of SR 110 in Jasper County. The eastern segment was added by the mid-1940s, running between SR 17 and US 31.
