This article lists all the captains of the India national football team. The first India captain in their maiden international tour was Gostha Pal, organised under the control of Indian Football Association (Bengal) before the formation of All India Football Federation in 1937. The first captain to lead India in their first AIFF organised international tour was Karuna Bhattacharya, who captained India in their first international match against Australia on 3 September 1938. The India national football team represents India in international football and is governed by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The team is affiliated to FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Indian team, which was once considered one of the best teams in Asia, had its golden era during the 1950s and early 1960s. During this period, India won gold at the 1951 and 1962 Asian Games, while finishing fourth at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Thus, India became the first Asian nation to reach the semi-final of a FIFA organised major tournament. India has never participated in the FIFA World Cup, although they did qualify by default for the 1950 FIFA World Cup of Brazil after all other nations in their qualification group withdrew. 1953 Colombo Cup
The 1953 Colombo Cup was the second edition of the Colombo Cup held in Rangoon, Burma. India won the cup for a second time by winning all thee matches. It was India's first outright win in an international football tournament played abroad. The team received the rolling Colombo Cup and a Special Burma Cup for permanent retention. Overview The India team arrived in Rangoon on 22 October 1953 and the Pakistan side, a week before. ''The Indian Express'' described the Bogyoke Aung San Stadium, Aung San Stadium, where all matches were to be played, as having "concrete and semi permanent stands all around the ground" with a capacity of 30,000. Chuni Goswami
Subimal "Chuni" Goswami (15 January 1938 – 30 April 2020) was an Indian professional footballer and first-class cricketer. As footballer, he played as a striker or winger, captained both the Mohun Bagan club and the Indian national team. He also served as the Sheriff of Kolkata. Goswami scored nine goals in 30 international appearances. He was an Olympian, represented India national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He also led the team to achieve the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games, and earn the runners-up position at the 1964 AFC Asian Cup. Playing for the India national team under coaching of legendary Syed Abdul Rahim, Goswami was also a first class cricketer, playing Ranji Trophy for Bengal. He captained his team to the final of the tournament in 1971–72. On 15 January 2020, India Post issued a commemorative postage stamp in his honour. Sheikh Abdul Latif
Sheikh Abdul Latif (also Sheikh Abdul Lateef; 15 August 1928 – 2 February 2000) was an Indian footballer. He participated at the 1952 Summer Olympics, 1956 Summer Olympics and the 1960 Summer Olympics, with Syed Abdul Rahim managed India. In 1959–60, he captained the national team. Playing career Latif during his playing days, was influenced by Indian football legend Syed Abdus Samad. In 1959, Latif led India in pre-Olympics and Merdeka tournament. Neville Stephen J. D'Souza (3 August 1932 – 16 March 1980) was an Indian footballer who played as a striker. During the "golden era of Indian football" under legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, he was recognised one of the finest strikers of India national team having perfect eye for goal. Samar "Badru" Banerjee ( bn, সমর "বদ্রু" ব্যানার্জী; 30 January 1930 – 20 August 2022) was an Indian association football, footballer who played primarily as a striker for the India national football team.
