Iceland
Iceland ( is, Ísland; ) is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic Ocean. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which (along with its surrounding areas) is home to over 65% of the population. Iceland is the biggest part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea level, and its central volcanic plateau is erupting almost constantly. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson
Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (; born 23 April 1958), also known as HÖH, is a musician, an art director, and '' allsherjargoði'' (''chief goði'') of Ásatrúarfélagið ("the Ásatrú Association"). Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson was a pioneer in the use of computers when composing music and cleared the path for new ideas in recording and arrangements. He has worked on ambitious, experimental and original projects with various musicians, such as Psychic TV, Current 93, Sigur Rós, Steindór Andersen and Eivør Pálsdóttir. From early bands to the birth of Þeyr From 1972 to 1975 he was playing drums in a school band called Fatima with guitarist Jóhannes Helgason, bassist Birgir Ottóson and singer Guðmundur Eyjólfsson. In 1974 singer Eiríkur Hauksson replaced Guðmundur and guitarist Sigurgeir Sigmundsson joined them and a year after they broke up. Prins Póló
Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson (26 April 1977 – 29 September 2022), better known by his stage name Prins Póló, was an Icelandic singer-songwriter and experimental artist. He was also part of the Icelandic band Skakkamanage. Skakkamanage Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson started his career in the mid 2000s when he developed the alternative rock band Skakkamanage that released three albums: ''Lab of Love'' in 2006, followed by ''All Over The Face'' in 2008. The latter album was nominated for "Best Album" in Iceland Kraumur Awards. The band made a comeback in 2014 with the album ''Sounds of Merrymaking'' with "Free From Love" released as a single from the latter album. Paul Oscar
Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson (born 16 March 1970), known internationally as Páll Óskar and Paul Oscar, is an Icelandic pop singer, songwriter and disc jockey. He had a musical childhood, singing at private functions, with choirs and for media advertisements, but was affected by bullying in school and tension between his parents at home. He came out as gay to his family at the age of 16 years. Paul Oscar's musical range spans traditional Icelandic songs, ballads, love songs, disco, house and techno. He released his first album, ''Stuð'' (''Groove''), in 1993 while in New York City, and also sang with Icelandic groups Milljónamæringarnir (The Millionaires) and Casino while establishing a career as a solo artiste. His album of ballads, ''Palli'', was the best-selling Icelandic album of 1995. Mugison
Örn Elías Guðmundsson, known professionally as Mugison (born 4 September 1976), is an Icelandic musician. Early life In 1977, Guðmundsson and his family moved from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður. In 1982, his family moved from Iceland to Cape Verde in Northwest Africa. His father was there as a part of a volunteer program teaching locals how to fish. Guðmundsson spent his childhood in Cabo Verde owning various pet monkeys and swimming as a pastime. He did not start school until the age of nine. From the age of 10 to 14, he lived in and around many parts of Reykjavík. At 14, he moved to Hrísey. During the winter, he was sent to a boarding school from age of 14 to 17. This is where Guðmundsson began to explore and discover music. Prior to moving to Hrísey, he had been a swimmer and football player, and was not overly interested in the arts. Bubbi Morthens
260 px, Bubbi Morthens, Laugardalsvöllur, Iceland (2007) Bubbi Morthens (full name ''Ásbjörn Kristinsson Morthens''; born 6 June 1956) is an Icelandic-Danish-Norwegian singer and songwriter. Aside from a lengthy solo career, he has been a member of such Icelandic bands as Utangarðsmenn and Egó. Personal life Bubbi was born in Reykjavík to a Danish mother and a half-Norwegian, half-Icelandic father. Bubbi is a common nickname for Ásbjörn. He developed a strong addiction to cocaine and alcohol in his youth, later in life he became an advocate for sobriety and addiction prevention. In 2018 he published the poetry book ''Rof'' about the sexual abuse he was a victim of as a child. In 1973 (at the age of 17), Bubbi became a migrant worker. Magnús Þór Jónsson (born 7 April 1945), better known by the stage name Megas, is a vocalist, songwriter, and writer who is well known in his native Iceland. Interest in music Being an admirer of Elvis Presley, Megas welcomed the arrival of rock & roll to Iceland by 1956, although his interest in music had to be postponed while he attended grammar school in 1960. While he was young, he studied piano and showed skill at painting. He wrote outrageous short stories for the school papers and in 1968 he also published the sheet music and lyrics to 14 songs, many of which would be released on his first records. Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir (; born April 23, 1999), known by the mononym Laufey , is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who became popular in the early 2020s. She describes her musical style, a mixture of jazz pop and bedroom pop, as ''modern jazz.'' Laufey participated in ''The Voice (franchise), The Voice Iceland'' in 2015. Low Roar was an Icelandic post-rock/electronica project founded by the late American immigrant Ryan Karazija. Originally a solo act, the band later added Leifur Björnsson and Logi Guðmundsson. Leoncia Maria Martin, known professionally as Leoncie, is an Indian–Icelandic musician. Her other stage names are Icy Spicy Leoncie and Indian Princess Leoncie. Life Leoncie was born in Goa in India. She is of Indian and Portuguese descent (Goa was a Portuguese Colony until 1961). She studied music at Trinity College Of Music London. Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (born 10 September 1982), better known by her stage name, Lay Low, is an Icelandic musician and singer. Biography Lovísa was born to a Sri Lankan father and an Icelandic mother. She moved to Iceland at a young age where she has lived since. As a child she began taking piano lessons but started playing electric bass and guitar in her teens, and has since then played with numerous local bands. She joined the band Benny Crespo's Gang playing Keyboard instrument, keyboards/synthesizers and guitar. It was then when she first started to use her voice. Lay Low, the alter ego of Lovísa, started to evolve early in 2006. Júníus Meyvant is the stage name and musical project of Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson, an Icelandic singer-songwriter. NPR Music described his style as "soul-stirring melodies from way up north" in discussing his 2014 single, "Color Decay." That year, KEXP-FM, a Seattle radio station, named the single a song of the day. Meyvant performs internationally, playing his first New York City show in 2017. He also performed at Bumbershoot 2017, a Seattle music festival. He released his ''Floating Harmonies'' album through Record Records, an Icelandic label. The art on the cover is his own work.
