The high commissioner of the United Kingdom to Canada is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Canada and is in charge of the British diplomatic mission to Canada. As fellow members of the Commonwealth of Nations, diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Canada are at governmental level, rather than between heads of state, sharing the same King. Thus, the countries exchange High Commissioners, rather than ambassadors. The offices of the British High Commission are at 80 Elgin Street in Ottawa, which was built in 1964 on the site of the old Grand Union Hotel. The British High Commissioner's residence is Earnscliffe in Ottawa on Sussex Drive. The house was built in 1855, was later occupied by Canada's first prime minister, John A. Malcolm Ian Macdonald (born 7 January 1950) is an English former professional footballer, manager and media figure. Nicknamed 'Supermac', Macdonald was a quick, powerfully built prolific goalscorer. Sir Brian James Proetel Fall (born 13 December 1937) is a retired British diplomat who was the UK's Special Representative for the South Caucasus 2002–12. Education Brian Fall was educated at St Paul's School, London, Magdalen College, Oxford, and the University of Michigan Law School. Sir Alan Bedford Urwick (2 May 1930 – 8 December 2016) was a British diplomat, who served as Serjeant-at-Arms of the House of Commons from 1989 to 1995. Sir John Archibald Ford, KCMG, MC (19 February 1922 – 16 January 2018) was a British diplomat. He served as British Ambassador to Indonesia from 1975 to 1978 and British High Commissioner to Canada from 1978 to 1981. Biography Ford was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, the son of Ronald Mylne Ford, a solicitor, and Margaret Jesse Coghill. John Baines Johnston
Sir John Baines Johnston (13 May 1918 – 16 October 2005) was a British diplomat. He is best known for being Britain's High Commissioner to Rhodesia when that colony made its Unilateral Declaration of Independence in November 1965. Early career Johnston was born at Maryport, Cumberland, the son of a Baptist clergyman, and was educated at Banbury Grammar School and The Queen's College, Oxford. Sir Peter Telford Hayman (14 June 1914 – 6 April 1992) was a British diplomat, intelligence operative and member of the Paedophile Information Exchange (a pro-paedophile activist group).
