A captain of an Australian rules football team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match and off the field, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of a regular player. As an on-field leader, they are second to the coach and have various roles, including to inspire the players and sometimes address umpires and the media. Gold Coast Suns
The Gold Coast Suns is a professional Australian rules football club that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club is based on Queensland's Gold Coast in the suburb of Carrara. The club has been playing in the AFL since the 2011 season, having been founded as the league's 17th active club by a consortium formerly known as "GC17" and being granted a licence to join the AFL on 31 March 2009. The team play home matches at Carrara Stadium (known for commercial purposes as "Metricon Stadium") and have their training and administrative facilities located at the adjacent Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Gary Ablett Jr
Gary Ablett Jr. (born 14 May 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). The eldest son of Australian Football Hall of Fame member and former Hawthorn and Geelong player Gary Ablett Sr., Ablett was drafted to Geelong under the father–son rule in the 2001 national draft and has since become recognised as one of the all-time great midfielders. Thomas Lynch (born 31 October 1992) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played 131 games and kicked a then club-record 254 goals at the Gold Coast Suns after being drafted by the club with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 national draft. Steven May (born 10 January 1992) be an Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He served as the co-captain of Gold Coast in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Early life Steven May was born in Darwin into a family of Indigenous Australian descent (Gunbalanya and Larrakia). David Swallow (born 19 November 1992) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). Swallow won the Gold Coast Suns Club Champion award in 2014, becoming the second player to win the award after Gary Ablett Jr. won the award in the club's first three seasons, and served as Gold Coast co-captain from 2019 to 2021. Hannah Dunn (born 19 August 1991) is an Australian rules footballer playing for Port Adelaide in the AFL Women's competition. Early life Dunn was raised in Canberra and attended Daramalan College throughout her upbringing. She began playing football in 2010 for the Queanbeyan Tigerettes in the AFL Canberra competition and became the first female player to reach 100 appearances for the club. AFLW career Despite missing out on selection in the 2016 AFL Women's draft, Dunn trained with Greater Western Sydney as a back-up player in 2016 preseason period.
