Dawna Friesen is a Canadian television journalist, currently the chief anchor and executive editor of ''Global National''.L. Global National
''Global National'' is the English language flagship national newscast of Canada's Global Television Network. Editorial and production staff are based out of Global's national news centre at Global BC in Burnaby, British Columbia, with Dawna Friesen presenting from the Global BC studios Mondays to Thursdays, and Farah Nasser presenting from the Global Toronto studios Fridays to Sundays. From 2008 to 2010, the program was the only Canadian network newscast to be regularly anchored from the nation's capital, Ottawa. In addition to Global's owned-and-operated stations (O&Os), ''Global National'' also airs on affiliate CHFD-DT in Thunder Bay, Ontario and independent station CJON-DT in St. John's, Newfoundland. Farah Nasser
Farah Nasser is a Canadian journalist. In May 2015, she was named by Shaw Media as the co-anchor of Global Toronto's 5:30pm and 6pm newscast, alongside Alan Carter. Previous to this role, she was a reporter and anchor with CablePulse24 in Toronto in 2010. She previously anchored Citytv Toronto's City''News'' weekend editions at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. with Roger Petersen from 2007 until she was laid off on January 19, 2010. CITY-TV announced cuts to several news programs and staff. The weekend news was cancelled, and Nasser was part of a company-wide layoff that affected 6% of CITY's staff, and several on-air presenters. In June 2022, Global News announced that Nasser would be moving from Global Toronto to join Global National, as weekend anchor. Mercedes Stephenson (born c. 1981) is a Canadian journalist and military analyst, currently the host of Global Television Network's Sunday morning talk show ''The West Block''. She was born and raised in Calgary. She received a BA in political science from the University of Calgary. She did post-graduate studies at the University of Calgary Centre for Military and Strategic Studies. She studied economics and media ethics at Georgetown University. She also worked as an intern at The Pentagon and was a visiting research student at the MIT Center for International Studies. Jarvis was born in North York, Ontario and grew up in Richmond, British Columbia. She earned a degree in music, but established a career in investigative journalism and as a news anchor. The program was first shown only on Global Toronto as a three-hour local morning show, but now serves exclusively as a national entertainment and lifestyle program.
