Glamorgan County Cricket Club
Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. Glamorgan is the only Welsh first-class cricket club. They have won the English County Championship competition in 1948, 1969 and 1997. Glamorgan have also beaten international teams from all of the Test playing nations, including Australia whom they defeated in successive tours in 1964 and 1968. Robin Hobbs
Robin Nicholas Stuart Hobbs (born 8 May 1942) is a former English cricketer, who played in seven Tests for England from 1967 to 1971. He played first-class cricket for both Essex and Glamorgan. Cricket writer, Colin Bateman, remarked, "Hobbs was the last specialist leg-spinner to play for England before Ian Salisbury revived the art in 1992. A good spinner of the ball although he lacked the googly, an inventive batsman and great character, he was an immensely popular cricketer". Alviro Petersen
Alviro Nathan Petersen (born 25 November 1980) is a former South African international cricketer who played domestic cricket in South Africa for the Highveld Lions and in England for Lancashire. A right-handed batsman, he has represented South Africa in Test, One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 cricket. He was the captain of the Highveld Lions in South African domestic cricket. Domestic career Petersen was born and raised in the township of Gelvandale in Port Elizabeth and attended the same state high school as fellow South African Test batsman Ashwell Prince. Jamie Dalrymple
James William Murray Dalrymple (born 21 January 1981) is a Kenyan-born former English cricketer, who played ODIs and T20Is for England. He is a right-handed batsman and off-spin bowler. He is perhaps best known for taking a spectacular diving catch in a One Day International against Australia in 2007. Domestic career Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Dalrymple made a double-century in 2003, becoming only the third batsman to do so in a Varsity match. Dalrymple has represented England at under-19 level against Sri Lanka, before captaining British Universities. David Hemp
David Lloyd Hemp (born 8 November 1970) is a former Bermudian cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler, who has played domestic cricket for Glamorgan, Free State, and Warwickshire. David has a younger brother, Tim, who has previously played for Glamorgan's second eleven, and who appeared for Wales Minor Counties in the NatWest Trophy. David Hemp has also played List A and Twenty20 cricket. He is currently Head coach of Pakistan Women Cricket Team. He attended Millfield School. County cricket Hemp first appeared for Glamorgan in 1991, and was part of the Glamorgan side which won the 1993 Sunday League championship. Robert Croft
Robert Damien Bale Croft MBE (born 25 May 1970) is a former Welsh cricketer who played international cricket for England. He is an off-spin bowler who played for Glamorgan and captained the county from 2003 to 2006. He retired from first class cricket at the end of the 2012 season, having played county cricket for 23 seasons. He commentates on cricket occasionally for Sky Sports. Steve James (cricketer)
Stephen Peter James (born 7 September 1967) is an English journalist and former cricketer who played two Test matches for England in 1998, making 71 runs in four innings. James was captain of Glamorgan for three seasons before retiring in 2003 after 17 seasons with the club, aged 35. He played a total of 245 first-class matches, making 15,890 runs at a batting average just above 40, with a total of 47 centuries and a highest score of 309 not out against Sussex in 2000which is the Glamorgan record highest score. Matthew Maynard
Matthew Peter Maynard, (born 21 March 1966) is an English cricket coach and former cricketer. He played in four Tests and fourteen ODIs for England. Maynard was a batsman (and, later in his career, wicketkeeper) known for his aggressive and dashing strokeplay. His first-class career with Glamorgan, saw him achieve a batting average of 42.53, take 372 catches and make seven stumpings with the gloves, earned him several caps for England, but he was never able to translate his county form into Test success. Alan Butcher
Alan Raymond Butcher (born 7 January 1954) is a former English cricketer who is part of a family known for its strong cricketing connections. Although only selected to play for England on one occasion, he was lauded for his skills in first-class cricket and was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1991. He became Essex coach in 1993, and coached Surrey between 2005 and 2008. Hugh Morris (cricketer)
Hugh Morris (born 5 October 1963) is a Welsh people, Welsh former cricketer, who played in three Test cricket, Tests for England cricket team, England in 1991. Rodney Ontong
Rodney Craig Ontong (born 9 September 1955) is a former first-class cricketer who played for Glamorgan County Cricket Club in the UK, and for various South African teams. Ontong was born in Johannesburg, and originally came to the UK from South Africa to pursue a football career; he had trials with Chelsea in the early 1970s. He did not impress enough to join their books, instead turning to cricket, after some success as a club cricketer in London. The South African earned a place on the MCC groundstaff and coach Len Muncer later recommended him to Glamorgan, Muncer's former county. Ontong made his Glamorgan debut against the touring Australian team at Swansea in 1975. From 1977 he was a regular in the Glamorgan side and would return to South Africa at the conclusion of each British summer to play more first-class cricket. Mike Selvey
Michael Walter William Selvey (born 25 April 1948), known as Mike Selvey, is an English former Test and county cricketer, and now a cricket writer and commentator. Selvey played in three Tests for England in 1976 and 1977. His county cricket commitments included service to Surrey, Middlesex and Glamorgan. He is currently President of Middlesex. Life and career Selvey was educated at Honeywell Primary School, Battersea Grammar School, the University of Manchester and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He played cricket for Surrey and Cambridge University before joining Middlesex in 1972, where he spent the majority of his playing career.
