German Argentines (in Spanish referred as ''germano argentinos'') are made up of Argentines of German descent, as well as Germans who became Argentine citizens. Please, note that ethnic Germans not only lived within the German borders of their time, but there were many communities of ethnic Germans living in other parts of Europe, especially before WWII. The German language and culture have traditionally been more important than the country of origin, as the basis of the ethnic and national consciousness of the Germans (Germany as a political entity was founded as late as 1871). Therefore, the political places from which these people or their ascendants emigrated to Argentina may vary. Paul Günther Lorentz
Paul (Pablo) Günther Lorentz (30 August 1835 – 6 October 1881) was a German-Argentine botanist. Lorentz was born in Kahla, Thuringia. He initially studied theology at the Universities of University of Jena, Jena and University of Erlangen, Erlangen. From 1858 he studied botany at the University of Munich, where he was a pupil of Carl Wilhelm von Nägeli. He focused his attention towards the study of mosses, subsequently collecting specimens throughout Europe (the Black Forest, the Austrian Alps, Switzerland, northern Italy and Scandinavia). Federico Kurtz
Federico Kurtz, also known as Fritz (1854–1920), was a German-Argentine botanist. Biography Fritz Kurtz was born in Berlin and earned his doctorate from the University of Berlin in 1879. He relocated to Córdoba, Argentina, and in 1884, took over the chair of botany at the National University of Córdoba. Building on the performance studies and research begun under his predecessor, Dr. Paul Günther Lorentz, Paul Lorentz, Kurtz expanded the school's collections and published key works in the study of botany and paleobotany in Argentina. He directed the university's Museum of Botany and was an active member of the National Academy of Sciences of Córdoba, initiating the exchange of research and material with similar institutions from around the world. Otto Krause (July 10, 1856February 14, 1920) was an Argentine engineer and educator. Early life Krause was born in the Buenos Aires Province town of Chivilcoy to Leopoldina and Carl August Krause, both German Argentine immigrants arrived in 1851. Alejandro Korn
Alejandro Korn (3 May 1860 – 9 October 1936) was an Argentine psychiatrist, philosopher, reformist and politician. For eighteen years, he was the director of the psychiatry hospital in Melchor Romero (a locality of La Plata in Buenos Aires). Eduardo Ladislao Holmberg (27 July 1852, in Buenos Aires – 4 November 1937) was an Argentine natural historian and novelist, one of the leading figures in Argentine biology. Together with Florentino Ameghino he undertook the inventory of Argentine flora and fauna, and explored all the ecoregions in the country, summarizing for the first time the biodiversity of its territory.
