List Of General Film Distributors Films
This is a list of films released by the British distribution company General Film Distributors. GFD was part of the Rank Organisation, and handled films produced by the various companies controlled by or linked to Rank including Gainsborough Pictures, Two Cities Films and Ealing Studios. The list also includes films released by Rank's other distribution outlet Eagle-Lion Films. Foreign films which were handled in Britain by GFD, such as imports from the Hollywood studio Universal Pictures, are not included. Film distribution (also known as Film exhibition or Film distribution and exhibition) is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributor, who would determine the marketing and release strategy for the film, the media by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing and other matters. The film may be exhibited directly to the public either through a movie theater or television, or personal home viewing (including physical media, video-on-demand, download, television programs through broadcast syndication). Andrew Marton
Andrew Marton (born Endre Marton; 26 January 1904 – 7 January 1992) was a Hungarian-American film director. In his career, he directed 39 films and television programs, and worked on 16 as a second unit director, including the chariot race in '' Ben Hur'' (1959). Life and career Marton was born in Budapest, Hungary. After high-school graduation in 1922 he was taken by Alfréd Deésy to Vienna to work at Sascha-Film, mostly as an assistant editor. After a few months, he rose the attention of director Ernst Lubitsch, who convinced him to try Hollywood. Marton returned to Europe in 1927, and worked as the main editor of the Tobis company in Berlin, and later as an assistant director in Vienna. He directed his ''Two O'Clock in the Morning'', first feature film, in 1929 in Great Britain. He joined a German expedition to Tibet in 1934, where he filmed ''Demon of the Himalayas''. Redd Davis (1896–?) was a Canadian film director and producer who directed more than twenty films between 1932 and 1942. Jack Raymond
Jack Raymond (1886–1953) was an English actor and film director. Born in Wimborne, Dorset in 1886, he began acting before the First World War in '' A Detective for a Day''. In 1921 he directed his first film and gradually he wound down his acting to concentrate completely on directing - making more than forty films in total before his death in 1953. He was associated with the Hepworth Studios of Walton on Thames, since his portrait appears on a studio publicity postcard when he was probably in his early twenties. He had a major success in 1930 with ''The Great Game'', one of the earliest films devoted to football and followed it up with '' Up for the Cup'' a year later. He remade '' Up for the Cup'' in 1950.
