The English women's football champions are the winners of the highest national league in women's football in England. From 1991 this was the WFA National League/FA Women's Premier League, and since 2011 the FA Women's Super League. First champions Early 20th century The codification of professional men's football by the Football Association in 1885 and the Football League in 1888 did not coincide with similar measures for the women's teams who were playing in those years. Clubs such as the British Ladies' Football Club (founded in 1895) mainly competed in friendly matches and national tours with some success. Women's football had a resurgence in popularity and attendances around the country during and after the First World War. FA Women's Premier League National Division
The FA Women's Premier League National Division (originally WFA National League Premier Division) was a football division in England. From 1991 until 2010, the National Division functioned as the top league in English women's football. During its final three seasons, the division operated as the second level of the league pyramid from 2010 to 2013. The division was played on a home and away basis, with each team playing each other twice, and points being awarded in the standard football format. Below the National Division were simultaneously the Northern and Southern divisions and the remainder of the women's football pyramid. The terms ''Women's Premiership'' and ''Ladies' Premiership'' thus generally referred to the National Division alone. Doncaster Rovers Belles Ladies Football Club, previously Doncaster Belles, is an English women's football club that currently plays in the , the fourth tier of women's football in England. The Scottish Women's Cup is the national knockout cup competition for women's football in Scotland. First held in 1970–71, the competition is owned and managed by Scottish Women's Football (SWF), an affiliated body of the Scottish Football Association (SFA). The 1970–71 Women's Football Association Cup was the first edition of the Women's FA Cup, WFA Cup (Women's FA Cup), the national women's association football, women's football knockout competition in women's football in England, England, which at the time was open to clubs from the rest of the United Kingdom. It was organised by the Women's Football Association (WFA). Seventy-one teams entered the Cup, which was sponsored by sports equipment company Mitre Sports International, Mitre and was thus named the Mitre Challenge Trophy.
