Jehoida McPherson
Jehoida Augustus McPherson (January 18, 1900 – 1963) was a Jamaican politician, representing the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in pre-independent Jamaica. He served as the first minister of education (1945-1949) and the first minister of labour (1953-1955). Early life and education McPherson was born on January 18, 1900, in Bellevue, Westmoreland Parish, Westmoreland. He was the son of Eleazer McPherson and his wife, Matilda. McPherson was educated at Kentucky Elementary School, Westmoreland Parish, Westmoreland and at Mico College. Political career McPherson was elected to the Parliament of Jamaica, House of Representatives from the newly-created Saint Thomas Western constituency when he defeated Senator Randolph Burke of the People's National Party in the 1944 Jamaican general election, first general election held under adult suffrage on December 14, 1944. Burchell Whiteman
Burchell Anthony Whiteman, (born March 30, 1938) is a Jamaican former politician. A member of the People's National Party (PNP), he served as a Member of Parliament, the Jamaican High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Minister of Education, and Minister of Information. Early life Burchell Anthony Whiteman was born on February 21 1938 in May Pen, the son of educator Edgar James Whiteman and homemaker and social worker Merab Whiteman. He studied at Munro College from 1949 to 1955 on a government scholarship that he earned on the basis of being the top student in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica. While at Munro, Whiteman was active in sports and performance arts, while also serving as house captain and head prefect. The Cabinet of the Government of Jamaica is the ultimate decision-making body of the executive within the Westminster system of government in traditional constitutional theory. The Cabinet of Jamaica is the principal instrument of government policy. It consists of the Prime Minister, and a minimum of thirteen other Ministers of Government, who must be members of one of the two Houses of Parliament. Fayval Shirley Williams (born 28 May 1958) is a Jamaican politician who is the Minister of Education, Youth and Information and the Member of Parliament for the St Andrew Eastern constituency. Williams had previously been the minister in the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology as well as the minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. She is the first female to be a minister in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, and also the first female minister of science, energy and technology. Ronald George Thwaites (born February 12, 1945) is a Jamaican attorney-at-law and politician, representing the People's National Party (PNP). He was Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Kingston Central, serving from 1989 to 2002, and again from 2007 to 2020. He served as Minister of Education from 2012 to 2016. Early life and education Thwaites was born on February 12, 1945 in St Andrew. He is the son of Ronald George Thwaites and Lena May Thwaites (née D'Costa). He received his early education at Westbrook Preparatory School and St George's College. Andrew Michael Holness, (born 22 July 1972) is a Jamaican politician who has been the Prime Minister of Jamaica since 3 March 2016, following the 2016 Jamaican general election. Holness previously served as prime minister from October 2011 to 5 January 2012. He succeeded Bruce Golding as prime minister, and decided to go to the polls in the 29 December 2011 general election in an attempt to get his own mandate from the Jamaican electorate. He failed in that bid, however, losing to the People's National Party led by Portia Simpson-Miller, with the PNP gaining 42 seats to the Jamaica Labour Party's 21.
