Dark Horse Comics
Dark Horse Comics is an American comic book, graphic novel, and manga publisher founded in Milwaukie, Oregon by Mike Richardson in 1986. The company was created using funds earned from Richardson's chain of Portland, Oregon comic book shops known as Pegasus Books and founded in 1980. Dark Horse Comics has emerged as the fourth largest comic publishing company in the United States of America. Dividing profits with artists and writers, as well as supporting artistic and creative rights in the comic book industry, Dark Horse Comics has become a strong proponent of publishing licensed material that often does not fit into mainstream media. Mike Mignola
Mike Mignola (; born September 16, 1960) is an American comics artist and writer best known for creating ''Hellboy'' for Dark Horse Comics, part of a shared universe of titles including ''B.P.R.D.'', '' Abe Sapien'', '' Lobster Johnson'', '' Witchfinder'' and various spinoffs. He has also created other supernatural and paranormal themed titles for Dark Horse including ''Baltimore'', '' Joe Golem'' and ''The Amazing Screw-On Head''. Early life Mike Mignola was born September 16, 1960. He was raised Catholic. Career Marvel and DC Mignola was born in Berkeley, California. He began his career in 1980 by illustrating spots in ''The Comic Reader''. His first published piece was in ''The Comic Reader'' #183, a spot illustration of Red Sonja (pg. 9). Appleseed (manga)
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. The series follows the adventures of ESWAT members Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires in Olympus. Like much of Shirow's work, ''Appleseed'' merges elements of the cyberpunk and mecha genres with politics, philosophy, and sociology. The series spans four volumes, released between 1985 and 1989. It has been adapted into an original video animation, three feature films, a 13-episode TV series, and two video games. In 1986, ''Appleseed'' reserved the 17th Seiun Award for Best Manga. Plot ''Appleseed'' takes place in the 22nd century, after the non-nuclear Third World War has led to the destruction of a majority of the Earth's people. Apocalypse Nerd
''Apocalypse Nerd'' is a six-issue comic book limited series created by Peter Bagge and published by Dark Horse Comics. Publication history The six issue miniseries ran between 2005 and 2007. The collected graphic novel version was released in 2008. Plot The story revolves around two men, Perry and Gordo, attempting to survive in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest after Seattle is destroyed in a North Korean nuclear attack. Perry is a somewhat introverted computer programmer whilst his longtime friend Gordo works in various "self-employed" fields and is also a drug dealer. The story is a masculine character study as the two evolve and adapt to the changes in the post-apocalyptic world. Gordo becomes more amoralistic while Perry learns survival skills. Both have unique personality traits which help them adapt. The end of every main chapter is followed by a story of the American Founding Fathers. Anthony Michael Bourdain (; June 25, 1956 – June 8, 2018) was an American celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian who starred in programs focusing on the exploration of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Ten
''Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten'' is the sequel to the ''Season Nine'' comic book series, a canonical continuation of the television series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer''. The series is published by Dark Horse Comics and ran from March 2014 to August 2016. The ''Season Ten'' brand continues the two ongoing component series that formed ''Season Nine'': ''Buffy'' and ''Angel & Faith''. The creative team of ''Angel & Faith'' in ''Season Nine'', writer Christos Gage and penciler Rebekah Isaacs, are the creative team behind ''Buffy Season Ten''. ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine'' is a comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics from 2011 to 2013. It is the sequel to the '' Season Eight'' comic book series, a canonical continuation of the television series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer''. ''Hunting Ground'' is a trade paperback collecting comic stories based on the ''Angel'' television series. Story description General synopsis A murderer is leaving corpses across L.A. sewers, and the evidence found by Detective Kate Lockley suggests Angel is responsible. Angel does not know which demon or monster is trying to set him up. In the other story Cordelia lands the main role in a Blair Witch type film about three filmmakers looking for the Helm of Haraxis. ''American Splendor'' is a series of autobiographical comic books written by Harvey Pekar and drawn by a variety of artists. The first issue was published in 1976 and the last one in September 2008, with publication occurring at irregular intervals (Pekar died in 2010).
