Swimming (sport)
Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. There are also regulations on what types of swimsuits, caps, jewelry and injury tape that are allowed at competitions. 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships
The 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, was held in Tokyo, Japan, from 9 to 14 August 2018. Qualifying criteria Unlike the World Championships and Olympic Games, nations can enter as many people as they like in the preliminaries of each event (in most international meets, only two swimmers from each nation are permitted). Andrew Hurd
Andrew Hurd (born August 12, 1982) is a Canadian former freestyle swimmer. He began swimming at age 8 and was a student at the University of Michigan. He won a gold medal on the world cup circuit in 2000 in Edmonton, Alberta in the 1500-metre freestyle event. He was born in Cambridge, Ontario. Brian Johns
Brian Lawrence Johns (born August 5, 1982) is a former competition swimmer from Canada. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, he grew up in Richmond, British Columbia and trained with the Aquanauts and Racers (later Rapids) swim clubs. He started swimming at age five. He attended the University of British Columbia, where he was a member of the UBC Thunderbirds varsity swimming team. He held the world record in the 400-metre individual medley (short-course), with a time of 4:02.72. He won a silver medal at the 2002 world championships in Moscow, Russia in the 400-metre individual medley, and a bronze at the 1999 World Championships in Hong Kong in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay. Colin Russell (swimmer)
Colin Russell (born July 2, 1984) is a Canadian competitive swimmer and freestyle specialist. Russell won a silver medal in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he competed in the 200 metre freestyle (finishing fourteenth), 4x100-metre freestyle relay (finishing sixth), and 4x200-metre freestyle relay (finishing fifth). At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 200 metre relays. Russell was an MSc student in kinesiology at Brock University. Swimming At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 4 × 100 Metre Freestyle Relay
The men's 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 25 and 26 July 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. It was the thirteenth appearance of the event, which has been held from 1964 to 1972 and then at every Games since 1984. Records Prior to this competition, the existing world and Olympic records were as follows. No new records were set during the competition. Qualification The top 12 teams in this event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships qualified for the Olympics. An additional 4 teams will qualify through having the fastest times at approved qualifying events during the qualifying period (1 March 2019 to 30 May 2020). Competition format The competition consists of two rounds: heats and a final. The relay teams with the best 8 times in the heats advance to the final. Markus Thormeyer
Markus Thormeyer (born August 25, 1997) is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle and backstroke. Originally from Delta, Thormeyer moved in 2015 to Vancouver, British Columbia after graduating high school to train with the High Performance Centre-Vancouver. While he swims he is also pursuing an undergraduate degree in environmental science at the University of British Columbia. Career Thormeyer began swimming at the age of 10 for the Markham Aquatic Club in Markham, Ontario but moved across the country to Delta, British Columbia shortly after he started. He continued to swim competitively under the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club through to his high school graduation. 2013–2016 As an age-group swimmer, Thormeyer made a name for himself on the Canadian swimming scene. Yuri Kisil
Yuri Kisil (born September 18, 1995) is a Canadian competitive Swimming (sport), swimmer who is a freestyle swimming, freestyle sprinter. A three-time medalist at the World Aquatics Championships, Kisil has represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. Career 2013–2016 Kisil's selection to the 2013 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, World Junior Championships in Dubai was his first major junior international competition. At this event he became the Canadian 15–17 age group national record holder in the 50 m Freestyle. Kisil was the youngest swimmer in Canadian history to win both the 50 m and 100 m freestyle national championships at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia, on April 3, 2014. Joshua Liendo
Joshua Liendo Edwards (born August 20, 2002) is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in the freestyle and butterfly. A four-time World Aquatics Championships medalist and three-time FINA World Swimming Championships medalist, he is also the 2022 Commonwealth champion in the 100 metre butterfly. He is the first Black Canadian swimmer to win an individual medal at a major international championship, as well as the first to win a gold medal, and represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Brent Hayden
Brent Matthew Hayden (born October 21, 1983) is a Canadian competitive swimmer. Representing Canada for a decade, Hayden is regarded as the fastest swimmer in Canadian history. Hayden won a bronze medal in the 100 m freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with a time of 47.80, and was world champion in the same event in 2007 with Filippo Magnini of Italy. By winning the 100 metre, Hayden became the first Canadian in 21 years to win a gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships, and was also the first Canadian to appear in the 100 metre final at the Olympics since Dick Pound at the 1960 Summer Olympics, and the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal in the 100 metre. Karl Krug (swimmer)
Karl Krug (10 October 1900 – 8 March 1983) was a German painter. Life and work Born in Leipzig, After completing primary school, Krug did an apprenticeship as a mechanical draughtsman and operating technician from 1915 to 1918. In 1918, he was drafted for military service. After the end of the war, he worked as an operating technician. From 1921, he was a pupil at the state academy for graphic arts and book trade in Leipzig, and from 1923 to 1925, he was a day pupil at the academy's pre-school. From 1925 to 1931, he studied under Fritz Ernst Rentsch, Bruno Héroux, Alois Kolb, Paul Horst-Schulze and Hans Soltmann. He was a master student with Horst-Schulze.
