Maryvonne Kendergi
Maryvonne Kendergi or Kendergian, (15 August 191527 September 2011) was a Canadian-Armenian writer, professor, musicologist, pianist, and French-speaking Quebecer, Québécois commentator. Life Kendergi was born 15 August 1915 in Gaziantep, Aintab to an Armenians, Armenian family. Due to the Armenian genocide she fled to Syria, where she grew up, then moved to France. At the University of Paris, Sorbonne, she studied and gained an advanced degree in 1942. She moved to Canada in 1952, and became a Canadian citizen in 1960. For ten years she hosted radio programs on contemporary music on Radio-Canada and also appeared regularly on television. She taught at the Université de Montréal. She played an important role in the founding of the Quebec Contemporary Music Society in 1966. She was a past president of the Canadian Music Council. Jack Kachkar
Jack Kachkar (born February 19, 1963) is an entrepreneur and business man. Early life Kachkar was born in Damascus, Syria, to Armenian parents (Mihran Missak Kachkar; née Kachkarian). His parents were Armenians from Syria. Kachkar immigrated from Lebanon to Canada in September 1969. He attended school and went to University of Alberta in Edmonton prior to transferring to Hungary, where he attained a medical degree, summa cum laude. Business career In 2005, the High Court in Ireland restricted Kachkar under the Companies Act: ''Mitek Holdings Ltd'' v ''Companies Act'' 005IEHC 63. The order was upheld following an appeal to the Irish Supreme Court. Kachkar tried to purchase Olympique de Marseille football club in early 2007. John Vernon
John Keith Vernon (born Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz; February 24, 1932 February 1, 2005) was a Canadian actor. He made a career in Hollywood after achieving initial television stardom in Canada. He was best known for playing Dean Wormer in ''Animal House'', the Mayor in ''Dirty Harry'' and Fletcher in ''The Outlaw Josey Wales''. Personal life Born as Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz in Zehner, Saskatchewan, Vernon was one of two sons of Adolf Agopsowicz, a grocer, and his wife Eleonore Krückel (also spelled as Kriekle or Kriekel). Both his parents' families immigrated to the Edenwold district in the late 19th century from the Austrian crownland and duchy of Bukovina. Anita Sarkeesian ( ; born 1983) is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She is the founder of ''Feminist Frequency'', a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular culture. She has received particular attention for her video series ''Tropes vs. Women in Video Games'', which examines tropes in the depiction of female video game characters. In 2012, Sarkeesian was targeted by an online harassment campaign following her launch of a Kickstarter project to fund the ''Tropes vs. Women in Video Games'' series. Vahram Sargsyan
Vahram Sargsyan (alternate transliterations include Sarkissian or Sargissian, Armenian: Վահրամ Սարգսյան; born 28 May 1981, Yerevan, Armenia) is an Armenian Canadian composer, choral conductor and experimental vocalist currently living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Biography Vahram Sargsyan studied at the P. Tchaikovsky Musical College, at the Music Theory Faculty. He then studied composition with Ashot Zohrabyan at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory from 1998 to 2003, where he also studied conducting with Tigran Hekekyan from 2000 to 2006 and where he has had post-graduate studies in composition again with Ashot Zohrabyan from 2005 to 2007. Raffi (musician)
Raffi Cavoukian, ( hy, Րաֆֆի, born July 8, 1948), known professionally by the mononym Raffi, is a Canadian singer-lyricist and author of Armenian descent born in Egypt, best known for his children's music. He developed his career as a " global troubadour" to become a music producer, author, entrepreneur, and founder of the Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring, a vision for global restoration. Early life Raffi was born in Cairo, Egypt, to Armenian parents who fled Turkey during the Armenian genocide. In 1958, his family immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Toronto, Ontario. His mother named him after the Armenian novelist Raffi. His father, Arto Cavoukian, was a well-known portrait photographer with a studio on Bloor Street in Toronto. Alice Panikian ( hy, Ալիսա Փանիկյան; bg, Алис Паникян) (born May 23, 1985) is a Bulgarian-Canadian journalist, TV host, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Canada 2006 and Miss Reinado Internacional del Cafe 2006. She attended William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in Toronto, and graduated in 2003. At 6'0" (1.83 m) she is not only the tallest major national titleholder in Canadian history, but also had earned a significant amount of attention from the world press as one of the strongest candidates to succeed to then-reigning Miss Universe, Natalie Glebova, also from Canada. Peter Oundjian
Peter Oundjian (born 21 December 1955) is a Canadian-American violinist and conductor. Early life Born in Toronto, Ontario, as the youngest of five children from an Armenian father and English mother, Oundjian also claims Scottish ancestry through his maternal grandfather, a Sanderson, and the MacDonell of Glengarry clan. Oundjian was educated in England, where he began studying the violin at age seven with Manoug Parikian. He attended Charterhouse School in Godalming and continued his studies later with Bela Katona. He then attended the Royal College of Music. Oundjian subsequently studied at the Juilliard School with Ivan Galamian, Itzhak Perlman, and Dorothy DeLay. While at Juilliard, he minored in conducting, and later received encouragement in his endeavors when he attended a master class from the eminent Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan. Patrick Masbourian is a Canadian coordinator and director. He was born on December 4, 1969 in the United States to Armenian parents. He began his television career while participating in ''La Course destination monde'', a transmission of the Télévision de Radio-Canada to give a chance to young reporters and cameramen to prepare international reports. Masbourian won the 3rd prize in the 1990–1991 season, in the competition Europe-Asia. He joined Marc Labrèche program ''La Fin du monde est à 7 heures'' in 1997 and continued to co-host until 2000 when he became presenter of "La revanche des Nerdz", a daily program on ''Z-Télé'' for until 2006 when François-Étienne Paré replaced him.
