The Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge is among the largest and most prestigious history faculties in the world. Though the study of history at Cambridge dates back centuries, the study of history as a distinct academic discipline in the form of the undergraduate Historical Tripos was only established in the nineteenth century: history had previously been studied as part of the broader 'Moral Sciences' Tripos, and subsequently within the 'Law and History' Tripos. Nevertheless, the Historical Tripos - together with the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees offered by the Faculty - has produced a large number of alumni who have gone onto occupy a broad range of positions in public life. The Faculty of History is one of the constituent departments of the University of Cambridge. Teaching and research of history has centuries old roots at Cambridge and the first Regius Professorship of Modern History was established by King George I in 1724. The History Faculty is one of the largest history departments in the world with well over a hundred faculty members. Richard Chartres
Richard John Carew Chartres, Baron Chartres , FBS (; born 11 July 1947) is a retired bishop of the Church of England. He was area Bishop of Stepney from 1992 to 1995 and Bishop of London from 1995 to 2017. He was sworn of the Privy Council in the same year he became Bishop of London. He was also Gresham Professor of Divinity from 1987 to 1992. In October 2017, Chartres was made a life peer, and now sits in the House of Lords as a crossbencher; he had previously sat in the House as one of the Lords Spiritual. Stanley Baldwin
Stanley Baldwin, 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley, (3 August 186714 December 1947) was a British Conservative Party politician who dominated the government of the United Kingdom between the world wars, serving as prime minister on three occasions, from May 1923 to January 1924, from November 1924 to June 1929, and from June 1935 to May 1937. Born to a prosperous family in Bewdley, Worcestershire, Baldwin was educated at Hawtreys, Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah ( ms, تونكو عبد الرحمن ڤوترا الحاج ابن سلطان عبد الحميد حليم شاه, label= Jawi, script=arab, italic=unset; 8 February 19036 December 1990) was a Malaysian statesman and lawyer who served as the 1st Prime Minister of Malaysia and the head of government of its predecessor states from 1955 to 1970. Diane Abbott
Diane Julie Abbott (born 27 September 1953) is a British politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Hackney North and Stoke Newington since 1987. Barry Till
Barry Dorn Till (1 June 1923 – 12 June 2013) was an Anglican priest, author and academic. He was born on 1 June 1923, educated at Harrow and served in the Coldstream Guards from 1942 to 1946. He studied at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he read history and theology and in 1949 was awarded the Cambridge University Lightfoot Scholarship in ecclesiastical history with special commendation. Simon Phipps (bishop)
Simon Wilton Phipps Military Cross, MC (1921–2001) was a British Anglican bishop, who served as Bishop of Lincoln between 1974 and 1987. Life He was born on 6 July 1921, the son of Captain William Duncan Phipps R.N. and Pamela Ross, and was educated at Eton College, Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1940, he was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards. He fought both in North Africa, where he was wounded, and in Italy. Nicholas Charles Papadopulos (born 1966) is a Church of England priest and the Dean of Salisbury. Papadopulos was educated at the King's School, Rochester, before gaining a degree in history from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. After studying law at City University, London, he worked as a barrister practising criminal law for seven years before studying for ordination at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. John Mort
John Ernest Llewelyn Mort, CBE (13 April 1915 – 30 July 1997) was an Anglican clergyman who served as Bishop of Northern Nigeria in the third quarter of the twentieth century. Mort was educated at Malvern, St Catharine's College, Cambridge and Westcott House, Cambridge; and ordained deacon in 1940 and priest in 1941. After a curacy in Dudley, Worcestershire, he was the Diocese of Worcester's youth organiser from 1944 to 1948. Fisher House, Cambridge
The Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy, known as Fisher House after its patron, English martyr and Cambridge chancellor St John Fisher, is the Catholic chaplaincy for members of the University of Cambridge in England. Founded in 1896, since 1924 it has been located on the site of a former inn on Guildhall Street in Cambridge's city centre. The present Chaplain is Fr Paul Keane. Operation The chaplaincy is open to all Catholic members of the University, from undergraduates to fellows. In 2007, approximately 500 people attended its three Sunday Masses, with 20–30 people attending each weekday. Westminster Cathedral
Westminster Cathedral is the mother church of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is the largest Catholic church in the UK and the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster.
