List Of CCHA Player Of The Year
The CCHA Player of the Year is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season to the best player in the conference as voted by the coaches of each CCHA team. The award went on hiatus after the original CCHA was disbanded after the 2012–13 season, and was reinstated when the league resumed play in 2021–22. The Player of the Year was first awarded in 1977 and every year thereafter until 2013, when the original CCHA was dissolved as a consequence of the Big Ten Conference forming its men's ice hockey conference. The award returned along with the league in 2022. Two players (Brendan Morrison and Ryan Miller) have received the award two separate times, both doing so in consecutive years. Central Collegiate Hockey Association
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) is a college athletic conference that participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The current CCHA began play in the 2021–22 season; a previous incarnation, which the current CCHA recognizes as part of its history, existed from 1971 to 2013. Half of its members are located in the state of Michigan, with additional members in Minnesota and Ohio. It has also had teams located in Alaska, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Nebraska over the course of its existence. The CCHA was disbanded after the 2012–13 season as the result of a conference realignment stemming from the Big Ten Conference (of which three CCHA schools; Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State, were primary members) choosing to sponsor Division I ice hockey beginning in the 2013–14 season. John Markell
John Richard Markell (born March 10, 1956) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player. Markell played 55 games in the National Hockey League and later coached Ohio State University. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Markell attended Bowling Green State University, where he was a four-year letter winner and served as an assistant captain as a senior on the Falcon hockey team that went 37-6-2. He was BG's leading scorer as a junior with 61 points after leading the team in goals as a sophomore with 26. Markell finished his career with 235 points, including 102 career goals. He also had 133 career assists. Markell was voted BG's outstanding forward in 1978 and 1979. After going undrafted, Markell played 55 National Hockey League games: 52 with the Winnipeg Jets, two with the St. Louis Blues and one with the Minnesota North Stars. George McPhee
George McPhee (born July 2, 1958) is a Canadian ice hockey executive currently serving as the president of hockey operations for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). McPhee served general manager of the Washington Capitals and has also served as alternate governor, vice president and special assistant to the general manager of the New York Islanders. Resigning as the Golden Knights general manager on September 1, 2019, McPhee continues to serve as president of hockey operations. Before becoming an executive, McPhee was also a professional ice hockey Forward. Although he was not drafted, he won the Hobey Baker Award in 1982 as the best NCAA men's ice hockey player, and played for the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Jeff Pyle (ice Hockey)
Jeff Pyle (born October 7, 1958) is an American former ice hockey player and the current head coach of the ECHL Atlanta Gladiators. Career Pyle has been a head coach in the ECHL since the 1998–99 season, when he coached the Mobile Mysticks. He remained as the head coach when the franchise moved to Gwinnett County to become the Gwinnett Gladiators for the 2003–04 season, staying in this position through the end of the 2010–11 season. On July 13, 2011, Pyle was named head coach of the American Hockey League's Texas Stars. It was announced on April 11, 2013, that Pyle would become the head coach and director of hockey operations of the ECHL's Evansville IceMen, effective July 1, 2013. The 1980–81 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began in October 1980 and concluded with the 1981 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 28, 1981 at the Duluth Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. This was the 34th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 87th year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. For the first time the Hobey Baker Award was conferred after the conclusion of the regular season. After the season four teams from the WCHA left to join the CCHA. As a result of dividing the four Big Ten schools that had previously been in the WCHA the Big Ten stopped declaring a conference ice hockey champion until the formation of a separate conference in 2013–14. Steve Weeks
Stephen K. Weeks (born June 30, 1958) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Weeks played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, and Ottawa Senators. Weeks was drafted by the Rangers in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft and made his NHL debut with the Rangers in 1981. Internationally, he played for the Canadian national team at the 1985 World Championships, winning a silver medal. Playing career Weeks was born in Scarborough, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1971 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Toronto. Northern Michigan Wildcats Men's Ice Hockey
The Northern Michigan Wildcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Northern Michigan University (NMU). The Wildcats are a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). NMU has won one national title and has made three Frozen Four appearances.
