List of British super-lightweight boxing champions is a table showing the boxers who have won the British super-lightweight title, which has been the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) since 1978. A champion will often voluntarily relinquish the title in order to fight for a higher-ranked championship, such as the world or European. Professional Boxing
Professional boxing, or prizefighting, is regulated, sanctioned boxing. Professional boxing bouts are fought for a purse bid, purse that is divided between the boxers as determined by contract. Most professional bouts are supervised by a regulatory authority to guarantee the fighters' safety. Most high-profile bouts obtain the endorsement of a sanctioning body, which awards championship belts, establishes rules, and assigns its own judges and referees. In contrast with amateur boxing, professional bouts are typically much longer and can last up to twelve rounds, though less significant fights can be as short as four rounds. Protective headgear is not permitted, and boxers are generally allowed to take substantial punishment before a fight is halted. Pat Barrett (born 22 July 1967) is a British former professional boxer and now a boxing trainer and promoter. He held the British light welterweight title from 1989 and 1990, and was the European champion from 1990 to 1992. He went on to fight for the WBO Welterweight World title. Paul McCloskey
Paul McCloskey (born 3 August 1979) is a former professional boxer from Northern Ireland who competed from 2005 to 2013. He held the British super-lightweight title from 2008 to 2009; the European super-lightweight title from 2009 to 2011; and challenged once for the WBA super-lightweight title in 2011. As an amateur, McCloskey won a silver medal in the welterweight division at the 2003 European Union Championships, and was an Irish Senior amateur champion. David Barnes (born David Smith, 16 January 1981) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2015. He held the British welterweight title from 2003 to 2004 and the British super lightweight title in 2008.
