List Of Baden Locomotives And Railbuses
This list contains an overview of the locomotives of the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railway (''Großherzogliche Baden Staatsbahn''), the national railway of the Grand Duchy of Baden, a sovereign state within the German Empire until 1920. Classification scheme Locomotives in the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railway were organised into classes and were given a railway number as well as names. Their names were derived from the animal kingdom, geographical features (rivers, mountains and towns) as well as people. Because the selection of names became increasingly difficult as more and more vehicles were procured, in 1868 the allocation of names was dropped from locomotive number 218 onwards. In 1882, all name plates were removed. Railway numbers were issued in sequence. When locomotives were retired, their numbers were allocated to the next locomotives to be delivered. The Mallet locomotive is a type of articulated steam railway locomotive, invented by the Swiss engineer Anatole Mallet (1837–1919). The front of the locomotive articulated on a bogie. The compound steam system fed steam at boiler pressure to high-pressure cylinders driving the rear set of driving wheels (rigidly connected to the boiler). The exhaust steam from these cylinders was fed into a low-pressure receiver and was then sent to low-pressure cylinders that powered the driving wheels on the swiveling bogie towards the front of locomotive. The Prussian Class P 8 of the Prussian state railways (DRG Class 38.10-40 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn) was a 4-6-0 steam locomotive built from 1906 to 1923 by the Berliner Maschinenbau (previously Schwartzkopff) and twelve other German factories. Baden III B
The Baden Class III b engines were German steam locomotives designed for hauling passenger trains for the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railway (''Großherzoglich Badische Staatseisenbahn''). In this class the Baden state railway grouped rebuilt locomotives of former classes III and III a. Seventy engines of Baden classes III and III a were rebuilt between 1881 and 1891.
