The Atlantic Coast Conference awards championships in 26 sports—12 men's, 14 women's (women's gymnastics was added for the 2023-24 school year with the addition of Clemson), and one coeducational (fencing, which was relaunched as an official conference sport in 2014–15 after having been absent since 1980). In all sports except football and volleyball, champions are determined by a post-season tournament or meet. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference located in the eastern United States. South Carolina Gamecocks
The South Carolina Gamecocks represent the University of South Carolina in the NCAA Division I. The University of South Carolina uses "Gamecocks" as its official nickname and mascot. While the men's teams were traditionally known as the Fighting Gamecocks and the women's teams were previously known as the Lady Gamecocks, this distinction was discontinued in part to eliminate any gender bias in the athletic department and in part to counter misconceptions about the gamecock mascot endorsing bloodsport. All of the University's varsity teams compete at the Division I level of the NCAA, and all but men's soccer and women's beach volleyball compete in the Southeastern Conference. The NCAA Fencing Championships are awarded at the annual tournament held in March to determine the NCAA's national collegiate individual and team championships in fencing. Individual champions are determined by performance during the NCAA fencing team championship competition. Unlike most NCAA sports, the fencing championship is a single National Collegiate championship rather than being split into divisions.
