List Of Ashford United F.C. Seasons
This is a list of seasons played by both the senior men's football club from Ashford, Kent ( Ashford United, Ashford Railway Works and Ashford/Ashford Town) in English football since 1891 and for the Ashford/Ashford United Ladies team. Ashford United (1891-1906) Ashford United were founded in 1891 - the union between South Eastern Rangers and Kentish Express FC. The team initially played at the Victoria Ground (behind the Victoria Hotel), then subsequently moved to Godinton Road, Ashford and finally to a site off Newtown Road. They were founder members of the original Kent League and additionally the team played in the East Kent League and the Thames & Medway Combination and Division 2 of the South Eastern League. The team folded owing to heavy debts during season 1906-07 and their league playing records for the season were expunged. Season (sports)
In an organized sports league, a typical season is the portion of one year in which regulated games of the sport are in session: for example, in Major League Baseball the season lasts approximately from the last week of March to the last week of September. In other team sports, like association football or basketball, it is generally from August or September to May although in some countries - such as Northern Europe or East Asia - the season starts in the spring and finishes in autumn, mainly due to weather conditions encountered during the winter. Tottenham Hotspur won the competition, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1–0 in the final at Stamford Bridge, London. Ashford Railway Works
Ashford railway works was in the town of Ashford in the county of Kent in England. History South Eastern Railway Ashford locomotive works was built by the South Eastern Railway on a new site in 1847, replacing an earlier locomotive repair facility at New Cross in London. By 1850 over 130 houses had been built for staff (called Alfred Town by the railway but New Town by everybody else). The works employed about 600 people in 1851 increasing to about 950 by 1861, and around 1,300 by 1882. A carriage and wagon works was opened on an adjacent site in 1850. The works led Ashford to be the largest industrial town in east Kent. South Eastern and Chatham Railway On 1 January 1899, the railway entered into a working union with the London Chatham and Dover Railway, forming the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR).
