Nathaniel Lubell
Bennet Nathaniel Lubell (August 15, 1916 – September 17, 2006) was an American three-time Olympian fencer. Early and personal life Lubell was born in New York City, and was Jewish. Later in life he lived in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Fencing career He fenced for the City College of New York, graduating in 1936, and Lubell was inducted into the CCNY Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969. Lubell won the United States Foil Fencing Championship in 1948, fencing for the Fencers Club of New York. He also helped the Fencers Club win the team foil in 1949-51, 1953, and 1955-56 at the Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA) Championships. At the 1951 Pan American Games, Lubell won the bronze medal in individual foil, team gold medals in foil and saber, and the silver medal in team epee. Doris Willette
Doris Willette (born February 11, 1988 in Lafayette, California ) is an American foil fencer. Her mother is an immigrant from Taiwan. Willette was named to the U.S. Olympic team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's foil team competition. Willette is a graduate of Penn State University. She won NCAA Championships in foil in 2009 and 2011. Willette won a gold medal in the team foil competition at the 2011 Pan American Games. Jonathan Tiomkin
Jonathan Tiomkin (known as "Jon"; born July 12, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American Olympic foil fencer. Fencing career High school Tiomkin began fencing when he was a freshman at Hewlett High School in Hewlett, New York. He defeated the team captain on the first day of practice. NCAA Championships Fencing for St. John's University, Tiomkin won the bronze medal in foil at the 1999 NCAA Championships, and was a 1st-team All-American. In 2001 he came in 6th. Hanna Thompson
Hanna Thompson (born November 1, 1983 in Rochester, New York) is an American foil fencer who was a member of the 2008 Olympics U.S. Women's foil team, which won the silver medal. A 2006 graduate of Ohio State University, Thompson was a four-time NCAA All-America and helped the Buckeyes capture the 2004 NCAA National Championship. Thompson also placed third individually at the NCAA Championships in 2002 and 2004 and helped Ohio State capture four consecutive Midwest Championship titles. Thompson has also competed with six national teams and two junior squads, earning a third-place team medal at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Trapani, Italy. In 2005, she won a Senior National Championship with the Rochester Fencing Club and also helped that squad bring in five senior team titles. Molly Sullivan Sliney
Molly Sullivan Sliney (born August 13, 1966) is a former American foil fencer, now working as a motivational speaker and fencing instructor. Sliney was a member of the 1988 and 1992 United States Olympic fencing teams. She also won two gold medals in the 1987 and 1991 Pan American Games. While fencing for the University of Notre Dame, she was the NCAA Women's Foil Individual Champion in 1986 and 1988. At the time she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for winning two individual NCAA titles. Sliney also was U.S. National Champion in 1985. In 1987, she led the Notre Dame Women's Foil Team to an NCAA championship by posting a 10-0 record in the tournament. Janice-Lee York Romary (August 6, 1927 – May 31, 2007) was a U.S. women's Olympic foilist who was the first woman to appear at six Olympic Games. Gerek Lin Meinhardt (born July 27, 1990) is an American right-handed foil fencer. Meinhardt is a two-time individual NCAA champion, 12-time team Pan American champion, three-time individual Pan American champion and 2019 team world champion. He moved out of his home in Round Rock, Texas, at the age of 14 to train in New York to pursue his dreams. Helene Mayer
Helene Julie Mayer (20 December 1910 – 10 October 1953) was a German-born fencer who won the gold medal at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, and the silver medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. She competed for Nazi Germany in Berlin, despite having been forced to leave Germany in 1935 and resettle in the United States because she was of Jewish descent. She was studying in an American University and later returned to Germany in 1952 where she died of breast cancer. Mayer had been called the greatest female fencer of all time, and was named by ''Sports Illustrated'' as one of the Top 100 Female Athletes of the 20th Century, but her legacy remains clouded. At the Olympics in Berlin, where she was the only German athlete of Jewish origin to win a medal, she gave the Nazi salute during the medal ceremony and later said it might have protected her family that was still in Germany, in labor camps.
