Albania
Albania ( ; sq, Shqipëri or ), or , also or . officially the Republic of Albania ( sq, Republika e Shqipërisë), is a country in Southeastern Europe. Sadik Kaceli
Sadik Kaceli (14 March 1914 – 24 December 2000) was an Albanian artist. He studied in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (1936–1941). Kaceli is one of Albania's best known painters, receiving many decorations as People's Artist of Albania and the Honour Citizen of Tirana medal. He created the first series of the Albanian lek. In 2016 Sadik Kaceli was given thHonour of Nation Order. He is one of the founders of the National Art Gallery of Albania, designed the first version of the Albanian lek, and made the People's Republic of Albania Coat of Arms. Biography Kaceli attended the Harry T. Fultz Technical school from 1929, and began a drawing course in 1931. Edi Rama
Edi Rama (born Edvin Kristaq Rama, 4 July 1964) is an Albanian politician, painter, writer, former university lecturer, publicist and former basketball player, who has served as the 33rd and current Prime Minister of Albania since 2013 and chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. Prior to his tenure as Prime Minister, Rama held a number of positions. He was appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1998, an office he held until 2000. First elected mayor of Tirana in 2000, he was reelected in 2003 and 2007. The coalition of centre-left parties led by Rama in the 2013 parliamentary election defeated the centre-right coalition around the Democratic Party of Albania of incumbent Prime Minister Sali Berisha. George Pali is an American Albanian contemporary visual artist. George Pali is a painter born in Shkodra Albania. From 1976 - 1980 attended the ILA Instituti i Larte i Arteve Academy of Arts in Tirana, 1991 he graduated from Michigan State University, Studio Arts (MFA). He works and lives in Stamford CT in the United States as a free artist. Genc Mulliqi (born 21 January 1966 in Fier, Albania) is an Albanian artist, specialising in sculptures and abstract paintings. He has studied in England and Tirana. Vangjush Mio
Vangjush Mio (3 March 1891 – 30 December 1957) was an Albanian impressionist painter. He was the brother of the Albanian film director and actor Sokrat Mio. Life and work Mio was born on 3 March 1891 in Korçë, Albania. In 1908 due to economic reasons he had to leave together with his brother to Bucharest, Romania. He was active member of the Albanian artist colony in the Romanian capital and in 1915 he started his studies of Fine Arts at the Bucharest National University of Arts. He successfully completed his education in 1919 and in the same year he opened his first personal exhibition in Bucharest. In 1920 he returned for a few months to his native country and exhibited his works in Korçë. This was the first art exhibition in public in the whole country. Agathangjel Mbrica
Agathangjel Mbrica (1883-1957) was an Albanian artist and goldsmith. Agathangjel Mbrica was born in Berat, a city in what was then the Ottoman Empire in 1883. His father Dhimitraq Mbrica was a tailor who specialized in making xhamadans and fustanellas. From the age of 14, Agathangjel Mbrica started working as a goldsmith apprentice of Aleks Kola in his store. During the 1920s, Mbrica became one of the most renowned goldsmiths in Albania. He forged a gold medal requested by the teachers of Berat to honour Avni Rustemi, an activist and teacher. In 1938, he forged a gold double-headed eagle as a present for Zog I, the king of Albania. Ndoc Martini
Ndoc Martini (17 January 1880 – 6 December 1916) was an Albanian painter. Life Martini was born in Shkodër, north Albania, then in the Ottoman Empire. He was a Roman Catholic. He took his first lessons from Kolë Idromeno in his home town at the School of Arts and Crafts. From 1904 to 1907 he lived in Calabria, Italy based on a scholarship from the "Scuola Normale nel Collegio Italo-Albanese di San Demetrio Corone". After that he studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He had to interrupt the studies because of financial issues, but kept working as a painter in the Pensi studio. Gazmend Leka
Gazmend Leka is an Albanian painter and artistic director and scholar. Biography He finished his high school studies at the artistic "Jordan Misja" school in Tirana. He finished studies for painting and graphics at the ILA (today's Academy of Arts). He was responsible for designing the interior of the "Gjergj Kastrioti-Skanderbeu" museum in Kruja. From 1982, for ten years he worked in the film studio "New Albania" ("Shqipëria e Re") as a painter and artistic director. He worked on two films and won an international award "Dea Fortunata" in Naples. Since 1992 he has been Professor at the Academy of Arts, Tirana. As a painter he has made around 140 major painting exhibitions inside and outside Albania. His artwork is typically in earthy tones such as brown or grey. Andrea Kushi
Andrea Kushi (1884–1959) was an Albanian painter. He was one of the most important representatives of the elder generation of Albanian painters. Life and work Kushi was born 1885 in Shkodër, where he spent his childhood and received first art impulses through the paintings of the famous Albanian painter Kolë Idromeno. He studied Fine Arts between 1912 and 1914 in Belgrade, when he was forced to interrupt the lessons due to the outbreak of World War I. After the war he went back to Belgrade where he successfully completed his studies in 1920. Kushi dedicated himself to the education of young painters.
