Tomfinlough
Tomfinlough ( ga, Tuaim Fhionnlocha) is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland. A Christian establishment was first made here around 540 AD. The parish lands were often raided by Irish, Viking, Norman and English forces in the years that followed. The church was allowed to fall into ruins during the period when the Catholic Church was penalized in Ireland. Location The ruined parish church stands at the northern end of the lake named Finn Lough or Fenloe. The name "Tomfinlough" means Tomb or Tumulus of the Fair Lake. Kilmoon
Kilmoon ( ga, Cill Mhúine) is a civil parish of County Clare, Ireland, north of Ennistymon. The parish contains the town of Lisdoonvarna. History The parish was listed as "Kilmugoun" in the Papal taxation of 1302. There is a Romanesque standing stone in the area on the site of a ruined church, St Mogua. Kilmoon fell under the poor law union of Ennistymon in the barony of Burren, and ecclesiastically belonged to the Diocese of Kilfenora in the Province of Cashel as of 1810. Dromore, County Clare is a rural townland in County Clare in the Republic of Ireland. It is located in the parish of Ruan and was formerly the location of Dromore House. Today, most of the townland is accounted for by Dromore Wood Nature Reserve. It is open to the public and also contains the ruins of Dromore Castle. Geography Dromore is located between the towns of Crusheen and Corofin, west of the M18 motorway and north of Ennis. The townland also contains Dromore Lake, fed by the River Fergus. The townland features a variety of terrain: rivers, lakes, turloughs, callows (flooded meadows), limestone pavement, fens, reed beds and woodland. Kilmacrehy, sometimes also Kilmacreehy, ( ga, Cill Mhic Creiche) is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland. The ruins of the old parish church lie near the coastal village of Liscannor, which is also a part of the parish. Geography Kilmacrehy is part of the historical Barony of Corcomroe. It is about to the west of Ennistymon. It is on the north shore of Liscannor Bay on the western coast of Clare. The parish makes up the peninsula that extends to the basaltic promontory called Hag's Head. From this point the Cliffs known as the Cliffs of Moher run to the northeast gradually rising to O'Brien's Tower, where they are about above sea level. Civil parishes () are units of territory in the island of Ireland that have their origins in old Gaelic territorial divisions. They were adopted by the Anglo-Norman Lordship of Ireland and then by the Elizabethan Kingdom of Ireland, and were formalised as land divisions at the time of the Plantations of Ireland. They no longer correspond to the boundaries of Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland parishes, which are generally larger.
