Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Mandalay
Archdiocese of Mandalay is located in the central part of Myanmar. It covers about and comprises the southern part of Sagaing Region, almost the whole Mandalay Region and the eastern part of Magwe Region. The archdiocese has the suffragan dioceses of Myitkyina, Banmaw, Lashio and Hakha. Most of the Myanmar people are Buddhist. A few are Muslims and Hindus. Roman Catholic Diocese Of Taungngu
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Taungngu (Lat: ''Diocesis Tunguensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church in Taungoo, Myanmar. The current bishop is Isaac Danu, appointed in 1989. History Erected in 1870, the diocese has the distinction of being one of the oldest in all of Burma. Originally established as the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma, in 1927 the Vicariate was subdivided, and the Apostolic Prefecture of Kentung established. The Prefecture would eventually become the Diocese of Kengtung. At the same time, the old Vicariate was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Toungoo. In 1955, the Vicariate was elevated to a full diocese. In 1961, the diocese would be again subdivided, and the diocese of Taunggyi, the future Archdiocese of Taunggyi established. The Archdiocese of Yangon ( la, Archidioecesis Yangonensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Myanmar. Charles Bo, SDB was appointed Archbishop of Yangon by Pope John Paul II on May 24, 2003. History The diocese was erected as the Apostolic Vicariate of Southwestern Burma by Pope Pius IX on November 27, 1866, and renamed as the Southern Burma on July 19, 1870 and later as the Apostolic Vicariate of Rangoon on May 7, 1953. It was elevated to the rank of a metropolitan archdiocese by Pope Pius XII on January 1, 1955, with the suffragan sees of Mawlamyine, Pathein, Pyay and Hpa-an which was newly erected on 24 January 2009. The (Roman Catholic) Diocese of Banmaw ( la, Dioecesis Banmavensis) is located in the Kachin State in northwestern Myanmar. It is a suffragan diocese of the archdiocese of Mandalay. The diocese was created on August 26, 2006 by splitting off the southern part of the Diocese of Myitkyina. On November 26 the first bishop Raymond Sumlut Gam was ordained, and the St Patrick church was elevated to the cathedral of the diocese by Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio for Myanmar. The diocese covers an area of 10,373 km². It is subdivided into 10 parishes. 26,070 of the 450,000 people in the area belong to the Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kengtung (Lat: ''Diocesis Kengtunghensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Burma. Erected in 1927 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kengtung, the prefecture was created from territory in the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma. In 1950, the Prefecture was elevated to an apostolic vicariate. In 1955, the vicariate was elevated to a full diocese and became suffragan to the Archdiocese of Taunggyi.
