List Of Non-marine Molluscs Of Honduras
The non-marine molluscs of Honduras are a part of the molluscan wildlife of Honduras. A number of species of non-marine molluscs are found in the wild in Honduras. There were no molluscs listed in the 2010 ''IUCN Red List of Threatened Species'' in Honduras, however, 4 species of freshwater snails and 2 species of freshwater bivalves were listed in the 2013 Red List. Planorbidae
Planorbidae, common name the ramshorn snails or ram's horn snails, is a family of air-breathing freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod molluscs. Unlike most molluscs, the blood of ram's horn snails contains iron-based hemoglobin instead of copper-based hemocyanin. As a result, planorbids are able to breathe oxygen more efficiently than other molluscs. The presence of hemoglobin gives the body a reddish colour. This is especially apparent in albino animals. Being air breathers like other ''Panpulmonata'', planorbids do not have gills, but instead have a lung. The foot and head of planorbids are rather small, while their thread-like tentacles are relatively long. Many of the species in this family have coiled shells that are planispiral, in other words, the shells are more or less coiled flat, rather than having an elevated spire as is the case in most gastropod shells. Although they carry their shell in a way that makes it appear to be dextral, the shell of coiled pl ...

This is the type genus of its family (Helicinidae) and subfamily ( Helicinae), as well as the superfamily Helicinoidea. This radiation is considered a fairly close relative e.g. of the water-living nerites (Neritidae), among the rather primitive snail clade Neritimorpha to which these all belong. Helicinidae
Helicinidae is a family of small tropical land snails which have an operculum. They are terrestrial operculate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Helicinoidea. These snails are not at all closely related to the air-breathing land snails, despite a superficial similarity of the shells. The name "Helicinidae" immediately reminds most people of "Helicidae", the most popular group of land snails including e.g. Helix pomatia, but the important two letters "ni" only from the Latin diminutive of the latter name alluding to superficial similarities of otherwise completely different things. Distribution These snails are found in tropical and subtropical areas but they have an odd distribution: they are restricted to the Caribbean islands and some Indo-Pacific and Pacific islands, as well as the edge of the Asian and Australian continents. Some species are found in the southern United States, from Louisiana to Florida; others in Central and South America. Taxonomy Helicinidae belon ...
