This is a non-exhaustive world-wide list of government-owned companies. The paragraph that follows was paraphrased from a 1996 GAO report which investigated only the 20th-century American experience. The GAO report did not consider the potential use in the international forum of SOEs as extensions of a nation's foreign policy utensils. A government-owned corporation is a legal entity that undertakes commercial activities on behalf of an owner government. Their legal status varies from being a part of government to stock companies with a state as a regular stockholder. There is no standard definition of a government-owned corporation (GOC) or state-owned enterprise (SOE), although the two terms can be used interchangeably. The defining characteristics are that they have a distinct legal form and that they are established to operate in commercial affairs. A state-owned enterprise (SOE) is a government entity which is established or nationalised by the ''national government'' or ''provincial government'' by an executive order or an act of legislation in order to earn profit for the government, control monopoly of the private sector entities, provide products and services to citizens at a lower price and for the achievement of overall financial goals & developmental objectives in a particular country. The national government or provincial government has majority ownership over these ''state owned enterprises''. Anesrif
Anesrif ( ar, و.و.د.م.ا.ا.س.ح) is a transport business created by the government of Algeria, to expand and modernise the Algerian railway system. Name Anesrif's full name, in French, is ''Agence nationale d’études et de suivi de la réalisation des investissements ferroviaires''. This translates as ''National Agency for the Planning and Implementation of Railway Investments''. Purpose Anesrif was founded by the government of Algeria on 20 July 2005, in order to plan and invest in the expansion and modernisation of the country's railways, under the supervision of the Minister of Transport. 900 billion dinars of funding was allocated. Naftal
Naftal (Arabic: نفطال) is the principal company selling petroleum-based fuels for domestic consumption in Algeria; its gas stations are a familiar sight throughout the country. Founded in 1981 by government decree, it was responsible for refining and distribution until 1987. In 1998, it became a subsidiary of Sonatrach. It employs about 30,000 workers, and has about 2300 gas stations (as of 2017). Activities Naftal is specialized in the distribution and sale of finished petroleum products and operations of service stations for the domestic market. Naftal manages 1,400 service stations in 2012. Naftal produces lubricants and naphthenic oils. Naftal manufactures its products in refineries of Sonatrach.
