This is a list of the radio episodes of the British sitcom ''Dad's Army'' which were normally adapted from the script of an earlier television episode. Dates shown are for the recording session followed by the original transmission on BBC Radio 4. Since 2007, the full run of radio episodes has been regularly repeated on digital archive station BBC Radio 4 Extra along with its radio-only sequel ''It Sticks Out Half a Mile''. British Sitcom
A British sitcom or a Britcom is a situational comedy programme produced for British television. Most British sitcoms are recorded on studio sets, while some have an element of location filming. A handful are made almost exclusively on location (for example, '' Last of the Summer Wine'') and shown to a studio audience prior to final post-production. A subset of British comedy consciously avoids traditional situation comedy themes, storylines, and home settings to focus on more unusual topics or narrative methods. ''Blackadder'' (1983–1989) and '' Yes Minister'' (1980–1988, 2013) moved what is often a domestic or workplace genre into the corridors of power. Never Too Old
"Never Too Old" is the last episode of the ninth and final series of the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Sunday 13 November 1977, the same day of the Remembrance Sunday 1977 Commemorations. Synopsis A wedding between Lance Corporal Jones and Mrs Fox is announced and takes place, but the reception is interrupted as the platoon are put on full invasion alert. Plot Mrs Fox stops by the church hall in search of Lance Corporal Jones, but she is met by Private Godfrey, who tells her that the rest of the platoon has gone for a march and will not be back for some time. Mrs Fox then tells Godfrey that she was going to call Jones to "put him out of his misery." When the Platoon arrive back, they notice that Jones is missing. One of the three missing ''Dad's Army'' episodes, only a few short clips and screenshots survive in the archives. Synopsis To his complete surprise, Walker receives his call-up papers. Mainwaring tries his best to get the authorities to reconsider. Plot When Walker is called up, he applies to the Military Service Hardship Committee, which rejects him on the grounds that he does not keep books for his business. After Jones's attempts to sabotage his medical test fail, Walker is invalided out because he is allergic to corned beef. "Something Nasty in the Vault" is the fifth episode of the third series of the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Thursday 9 October 1969. Synopsis Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson find themselves trapped in the bank vault with an unexploded bomb. Plot Walker arrives to pay some money into the bank, and a rather posh looking gentleman is standing behind him. As Pike prepares to cash his money, he discovers one of Walker's £5 notes is a forgery. Mainwaring is shocked to learn that the money came from him, and decides to hush it up. As Walker leaves, the posh gentleman introduces himself as Mr West, a Bank Inspector. Mainwaring's face falls. "Under Fire" is a missing episode in the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Saturday 5 April 1969. One of the three missing ''Dad's Army'' episodes, the videotape was wiped for reuse. The last episode of series 2, it was the final ''Dad's Army'' episode to be recorded in black and white. Plot The platoon arrest a suspect agent, who insists on being a British citizen, despite his accent, and the fact that he has a dog called Fritz. He attempts to help them put out a fire in the church hall, and is then found to be Warden Hodges' uncle. He comments that he doesn't know how Britain will win the war, and Wilson agrees. "Battle School" is the second episode of the third series of the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on 18 September 1969. The episode was recorded Sunday 1 June 1969. Synopsis The Home Guard go on a weekend guerrilla warfare exercise. If they ever manage to find it, they have to capture their Captain's HQ. Plot The platoon are travelling by train to a battle school in the country. Save for an incident involving Godfrey's weak bladder, the journey is uneventful. Disaster strikes when they arrive at the station; Mainwaring opens the secret instructions, and it is clear that he doesn't know how to read a map. They start off confidently, but it's not long before they find themselves back at the station. They try again and Mainwaring leads them into an ambush led by a rugged captain. Operation Kilt
"Operation Kilt" is an episode in the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Saturday 1 March 1969. Synopsis The platoon have to defend the church hall from a platoon of Highlanders on an exercise. Plot Captain Mainwaring leads the platoon in required PT exercises, injuring himself in the process and being briefly interrupted by Mrs Pike, who brings a rifle bolt Private Pike left at home and that she cleaned in the sink. Captain Ogilvie of the Highland Unit then arrives to inform them that they are to participate in a training exercise where the Highlanders will attempt to capture the Platoon's headquarters, starting at 10pm tomorrow. "A Stripe for Frazer" is a missing episode of the British television comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on 29 March 1969. Of the three missing ''Dad's Army'' episodes (all from the second series) it is the only one to have been reconstructed using animation. Synopsis Frazer is promoted to Lance Corporal, and battles with Jones for further promotion. Plot When Captain Bailey informs Mainwaring that he can make up another lance corporal, Frazer is chosen. Jones and Frazer both try desperately to impress Mainwaring into making them a corporal, and Frazer issues many charge sheets. The episode ends with Frazer breaking into Mainwaring's office with a boat-hook. "The Armoured Might of Lance Corporal Jones" is the first episode of the third series of the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Thursday 11 September 1969. It is also the first episode to be broadcast in colour. Synopsis Lance Corporal Jones allows the platoon to use his butcher's van as an armoured car and Mainwaring meets the new Chief ARP Warden, William Hodges the greengrocer. "The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage" is an episode in the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Saturday 8 March 1969. Synopsis The church bells are to be removed to provide metal for the war effort, so the vicar has one last ring before they are removed. After the church bells ring (which is the signal indicating the start of a German invasion), Mainwaring, Wilson, Jones, Frazer, Pike and Walker all go to Godfrey's cottage and start fighting the "Germans." Plot While most of the platoon are on their way to the cinema to see a training film, the church bells ring, and Mainwaring, Jones and Frazer take up a defensive position at Godfrey's cottage. "The Enemy Within the Gates" is the fourth episode of the first series of the British comedy series ''Dad's Army''. It was originally transmitted on Wednesday 28 August 1968, one week later than planned, due to the Warsaw Pact Invasion of Czechoslovakia. Synopsis A stranger with a suspicious foreign accent convinces Mainwairing's men that he is a Polish officer serving with GHQ who has come to inform them of a £10 reward for every Nazi arrested. While on night patrol, Jones' section capture two German airmen, but Private Godfrey complicates matters by allowing them to escape while they visit the lavatory.
