Census-designated Place
A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places, such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. CDPs are populated areas that generally include one officially designated but currently unincorporated community, for which the CDP is named, plus surrounding inhabited countryside of varying dimensions and, occasionally, other, smaller unincorporated communities as well. CDPs include small rural communities, edge cities, colonias located along the Mexico–United States border, and unincorporated resort and retirement communities and their environs. Buck Creek, Indiana
Buck Creek is an unincorporated census-designated place in Washington Township, Tippecanoe County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Buck Creek was originally called Transitville. A post office was established under the name Transitville in 1858, and was renamed Buck Creek in 1885. , it remains in operation. Geography Buck Creek sits at the intersection of Tippecanoe County Road 750 East and a northeast-southwest Norfolk Southern railroad line between the cities of Lafayette and Delphi. Clay County, Indiana
Clay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2010, the population was 26,890. The county seat is Brazil. Clay County is included in the Terre Haute, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The Indiana Legislature mandated Clay County in 1825, with territory partitioned from Owen, Putnam, Sullivan, and Vigo counties. Its name honors Henry Clay, a famous antebellum American statesman. The first Courthouse was built in the newly platted town of Bowling Green in 1828. It was a two-story structure of hand-hewn logs. By the late 1830s Clay County had grown to the extent that the first Courthouse could no longer provide adequate facilities. Therefore, a second Courthouse was constructed near the first Courthouse. Jefferson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2020, the population was 33,147. The county seat is Madison. History Jefferson County was formed on February 1, 1811, from Dearborn and Clark Counties. It was named for Thomas Jefferson, principal draftsman of the Northwest Ordinance and President of the United States from 1801 through 1809. Butlerville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in central Campbell Township, Jennings County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 282. History The Butlerville post office was established in 1851. An early settler being a former resident of Butlerville, Ohio, caused the name to be selected. Butlerville was legally platted in 1853. Martin County, Indiana
Martin County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 10,327. The county seat is Shoals at the center of the county, and the county's only incorporated city is Loogootee, on the county's western border.
