The Canada men's national soccer team (french: Équipe du Canada de soccer masculin) represents Canada in international soccer competitions since 1924. They are overseen by the Canadian Soccer Association, the governing body for soccer in Canada. They have been a member of FIFA since 1948 and a member of CONCACAF since 1961. Their most significant achievements are winning the 1985 CONCACAF Championship to qualify for the 1986 FIFA World Cup and winning the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup to qualify for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. Canada is the only national team to win a Gold Cup aside from regional powerhouses Mexico and the United States. Canada also won a gold medal in the 1904 Summer Olympics. George Anderson (Canadian Soccer)
George Anderson was an early prominent member of the Canadian national soccer team. Born in Bathgate, Scotland in 1901, Anderson played full back for all of Canada's six international games of their 1924 tour of Australia when the Canadians finished with a win-lose-draw record of 2-3-1. The tour began in Sydney on May 10 and ended in Newcastle on July 27 with Canada having played 26 games. One game was played in New Zealand on the way home against Auckland. His club at this time was Ladysmith. He played in the Canadian Championship final of 1926 for Canadian Collieries of Cumberland when that team were beaten by United Weston of Winnipeg in the first final for the F.A. Trophy. He was also a member of the Westminster Royals Canadian championship teams of 1927–1928 and 1929–1930 that defeated Montreal C.N.R, and the 1935–1936 team that defeated United Weston. Carmelo Barbieri
Carmelo Barbieri (born 24 February 1956) was an Italian-born Canadian soccer player who earned one cap for the national team in 1974. Career Barbieri originally played with Toronto Westwood, and in 1974 he played in the National Soccer League with Toronto Italia. In 1975, he played in the Serie C with Casertana. In the summer of 1975 he returned to play with Toronto Italia where he assisted in securing the First Division title. Iain Baird
Iain Baird (born January 1, 1963) is a Canadian former soccer defender who earned nine caps with the Canadian national soccer team between 1984 and 1986. Baird played for the Victoria Riptides during the 1985 Western Soccer Alliance Challenge Cup. He played for the Ottawa Pioneers in the Canadian Soccer League in 1987 and again for the renamed Ottawa Intrepid in 1988.
